Simon Katich emerges as new candidate for England Head Coach position

Former Australian cricketer Simon Katich has emerged as a powerful candidate for England’s head coach position. According to reports, Katich is currently the favourite among ECB officials and stands firmly as a contender.

After a series of humiliating defeats in the Ashes tournament, the England Cricket Board had to remodel its administration to build a sturdier and more robust structure. As a result, the Director of Cricket Ashley Giles and Head Coach Chris Silverwood were sacked.

The former English cricketer Rob Key was recently appointed as the new Director of Cricket. At the same time, the hunt for the head coach continues.

Rob Key expressed that he wants to separate the white ball and red ball coach positions. And Katich, despite his expertise in shorter game formats, is vying for the test head coach position.

Katich and Key also spent the whole of March commentating on the three-match series between Australia and Pakistan, thus building exemplary compatibility.

Simon Katich is considered a ‘tough and aggressive’ coach and is precisely what England needs at the moment. Until now, Justin Langer was a front runner in the competition for the head coach, but with Katich’s emergence, chances are slim for Langer.

The stylish left-hander also brings an incomparable quality to the table, which is his grasp and understanding of Australian cricket. Katich will give England a paramount advantage in the upcoming Ashes tournament.

Katich averaged a phenomenal 52.84 in first-class cricket. He has 58 centuries and has played for five county teams – Durham, Yorkshire, Hampshire, Derbyshire and Lancashire.

After retiring at 46, Katich has spent his time coaching several teams. Including the IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore for three years. He is currently the head coach of the Manchester Originals in The Hundred.
