Sidra Ameen, Chamari Athapaththu, Gaby Lewis make big jump in the latest ranking update

Pakistan batter Sidra Ameen has leapfrogged 19 spots in the latest ICC Women's ODI Batting Rankings following her sensational returns in the recently-concluded three-match series against Sri Lanka.

Ameen was the star of the show for Pakistan women in their recent 2-1 triumph against their Lankan counterparts. In three games, Ameen hammered 218 runs at an average of 72.66. She was subsequently adjudged the 'Player of the Series'.

As a result, the right-handed batter has now jumped 19 spots to claim the 35th spot in the women's ODI batting rankings.

Earlier this year, she became the first Pakistani woman to notch up a three-figure score in the history of the 50-over World Cup when she scored a magnificent 104 against Bangladesh in New Zealand.

Apart from Sidra, legendary Sri Lankan batter Chamari Athapaththu has regained the 23rd spot in the rankings.

Chamari was instrumental in Sri Lanka capping off a disappointing tour with a consolation win in the third ODI against Pakistan as she hammered a breathtaking 101 besides chipping in with two crucial wickets.

Meanwhile, current Ireland skipper Gaby Lewis has made a big move in the T20I rankings for batters.

The 21-year-old, who made history last week when she became the youngest to lead her country, smashed a whirlwind 58 against South Africa in the 1st T20I to lead her side to a historic win.

Lewis has thus far scored 83 runs in two games of the three-match series, and as a result, she has moved up 7 spots to claim the 23rd spot.

As far as South African women cricketers are concerned, Tazmin Brits and Chloe Tyron have moved up three and four spots to claim the 36th and 49th place, respectively. While right-arm seamer Nadine de Klerk has moved up to claim the 25th and 48th spot in the all-rounders and bowling rankings, respectively.

Pacer Tumi Sekhukhune, who has claimed 5 wickets in two matches, is the biggest beneficiary as she has leapfrogged 20 spots to claim the 27th.

South Africa and Ireland will play the decider of the three-match series on Wednesday, June 08.

IND vs SA 2022 | Dale Steyn told me I would receive an India call-up after IPL, says Umran Malik

Speed will take you places, which holds true for Umran Malik, the latest pace sensation of Indian cricket. His sheer speed, coupled with 22 wickets in the 2022 season of Indian Premier League (IPL), saw the paceman receive his first-ever T20 India call-up. Malik, who was with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), worked with their bowling mentor Dale Steyn in tandem. The 22-year-old was seen bowling in the Indian nets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, ahead of the first T20I against the Proteas. He spent some quality time talking with head coach Rahul Dravid and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey. The tearaway speedster, in an interview with the BCCI, sounded extremely pleased about being a part of the Indian squad and having sessions with Dravid and Mhambrey. "I was very happy to meet and talk with Rahul sir. He is such a legend of the game. He just told me to keep continuing what I do. Paras sir was also standing behind me and he was guiding me after every ball. It was giving me a lot of confidence," Malik expressed. The Jammu bowler also revealed what Steyn told him when he was selected for the Indian side to play against the latter's country. "When I got selected for India, Dale sir (Steyn) was with me in the team bus. We were going for the match. Everyone congratulated me and Dale sir said, 'I told you before the IPL that you will get the India call-up after the season'," he said. "And that's exactly what happened, by the grace of god. My goal is to give my best for Team India now," Malik concluded. Dravid has also talked about Umran's inclusion and said that he was impressive during the nets. "Watching Umran in the nets even yesterday, he has got that pace. He is a young boy who is learning all the time. He is getting better and improving all the time. The more games he is able to play, the better he is going to get," the head coach told reporters.
