Shane Warne desires to join England team as head coach

As England are currently on the lookout for their next full-time head coach, many prospects are currently in the race. From Justin Langer to Gary Kirsten, the possibilities are large but the clock is ticking as the side prepares for back-to-back World Cups.


Meanwhile, Australia legend Shane Warne has expressed his desire to join the English set-up as the head coach of the side. Warne, who once used to spin a web around the England batters, now stands in the line to coach the same side.


For the unversed, England made a series of sackings, including their former head coach Chris Silverwood, post the Ashes horror show. Paul Collingwood has filled up the position interimly while England's search for a perfect candidate is still on.


"I’d like to do it, it’s a great time to be England coach. I think I’d do a pretty good job, there’s a lot to work with. There are so many good players in England and a lot of depth, but you’ve got to get some of the basics right," Warne said as quoted on Sky Sports Cricket Podcast.


"You can’t bowl no-balls and drop so many catches, but you’ve got the players, they’re just not performing," he added.


Warne also put forward his stance on the Justin Langer saga and backed his former Aussie teammate. The leg-spinner lashed out at Cricket Australia for fueling the fiasco.


"Cricket Australia was disgraceful in the way they handled it. Winning an Ashes series and a World Cup, it doesn’t get much bigger than that. But [Langer] was a dead man walking. When I didn’t hear the captain or any other players sticking up for him, saying he was fantastic, I found that really disappointing.


"Why couldn’t Cricket Australia come out and say they were not renewing his contract straight away but would wait until the end of the summer, see who the best candidate is, and if Langer is still the best candidate give him a contract? If I were England I’d be jumping at him," Warne concluded.

Former India captain Virat Kohli’s 100th Test match will be played behind closed doors, confirmed Punjab Cricket Association on Saturday, 26 February. The decision comes in the lieu of fresh Covid-19 cases in and around Mohali and the PCA not wanting to take any sort of risk as the Indian cricketers look to move on to the Indian Premier League season right after the Test series. Kohli's 100th Test match has met with confusion in the last few months, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India lacking communication with the state associations. Earlier, the 100th Test match was speculated to be held in Bengaluru, a venue that Kohli has called home since the start of his IPL career. The Karnataka Cricket Association had then come out with a clarification stating that they had not been informed of such developments which later turned out to be true. The match was shifted to Mohali after the rescheduling of the series and now it has come to fore that the talismanic Indian captain would not have any spectators while he takes a field in a career milestone. Kohli has been looking for that elusive hundred in international cricket - his 71st in the international arena. Kohli last crossed the three-figure mark back in November 2019 against Bangladesh in Kolkata, while his last Test hundred came against West Indies in the same year. The right hander has been in good touch off late, scoring three fifties in the South Africa series, once coming agonisingly close to his hundred in the second Test match. At the moment, the former captain is taking a well deserved break from the T20I format.

PSL 2022 | Is Rashid Khan going to play in the final?

The Pakistan Super League is all set for its final clash on Sunday, 27 February with Lahore Qalandars and Multans Sultans set to take stage for one last time this season. A repeat of the Qualifier, Lahore Qalandars will get one last chance to defeat ‘team of the tournament’ Multan in front of their home crowd at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The task would not be easy though, as Lahore have looked significantly weaker while bowling in the middle overs due to the absence of Rashid Khan. The best T20 bowler in the world had left the PSL owing to his national duties against Bangladesh and is currently playing in the ODI series. Reports in the Pakistan media were flying off stating that Qalandars were looking to fly out Rashid for the final game and would send him back to Bangladesh the very next day. This fell in line with Rashid Khan’s requirements too as Afghanistan have already lost the ODI series having been drubbed twice in two game, and their T20I series begins on 3 March - ample time for Rashid to test negative over Rapid Antigen testing and play in the game. It was understandable from Qalandars' point of view that they would be desperate to get Rashid back considering how Islamabad United were able to slot in their star opening duo of Alex Hales and Paul Stirling for the 2nd Eliminator in the playoffs stage. The new PSL rules allow for teams to bring in players in case they return Covid-19 negative over RAT, but they are kept 2-metres away from the rest of the teammates. The pooled in players also use a separate dressing room and are brought in by a separate car to the stadium. However, the move did not help and United lost the game by six runs in a nail-biting finish against the home side. Khan, however, in his recent Twitter post has quashed all rumours and confirmed that he will be staying with the national team for the Bangladesh series as national duty comes first.
