Australia’s latest bowling sensation Scott Boland’s bowling average went into the double digits for the first time in his nascent Test career on Saturday, 15 January while playing the final Test match in Hobart.
Boland, who started off with an incredible 6/7 in his debut Test match had a career average of 8.64 in his first two Test matches. He had a total of 14 wickets from four innings having conceded just 121 runs in the games combined.
Bowling for the first time on Day 2 at Hobart, Boland was once again at his usual best drawing the edges of Ollie Pope and Chris Woakes. However, as luck would have it, chances were dropped in the slips and Boland had to be satisfied with just a single wicket in the first innings.
The lack of wickets shot his average up to 10 and it was the first such instance in his career. To put it in context, the greatest of bowlers in the world have a career average around 21-22. While Boland has a long way to go, the 32-year’s beginning of his career has been nothing short of memorable.
