Sanju Samson is set to lead India A in their upcoming 50-overs series against the visiting New Zealand A side. The cricketer said that he is looking forward to perform in the matches, in an attempt to get into the selection radar for the national side.

After getting snubbed from India’s 15-player squad for the T20 World Cup 2022, Samson stated that getting into the Indian playing XI has now gotten more challenging than ever.

Sanju Samson emphasises importance of India A games

The Kerala-based cricketer has only played seven ODIs and 16 T20Is for India, despite making his international debut back in 2015. The wicketkeeper-batsman recently featured in India’s white-ball series wins in Zimbabwe and West Indies, however, he has not been considered for the T20 World Cup in Australia next month.

When asked about the challenges of getting into the Indian side, he said:

“It really does get challenging. Finding a place in the Indian team is really challenging. There is a lot of competition around, even within players who are in the team now. When these things happen, it is important to focus on myself.”

The 26-year-old also stated that he will be focusing on the New Zealand A series and compared an A game with an international match.

“They (India A games) are really important. There is not much difference between an A game and an international game. The competition is almost the same. So, it is important to make use of the opportunities.”
