Sana Mir and four others to feature in Global T20 League

The Pakistan Cricket Board, in order to raise the standards of women’s cricket, have taken the initiative to grant permission to five players to participate in the Global t20 women’s league.

The Global T20 Women’s league is recognised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and will be hosted by the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB). The T20 tournament will take place in Dubai between May 1-15. It is organised by the Fairbreak Global organisation, a gender equality initiative.

Fairbreak Global has previously hosted three women’s leagues. Starting with the Inaugural Gender Equality match at Wormsley Stadium in 2018. Players from 10 different countries participated in the match.

Followed by 2019’s famous Fairbreak XI UK tour, where Sana Mir captained one of the teams. And the recent Blackwell-Mir cup 2020 (named after Australian cricketer Alex Blackwell and former Pakistan skipper Sana Mir). The Global T20 Women’s league will feature six teams competing in 19 matches to fight for the title.

Bismah Maroof, Aliya Riaz, Diana Bag, Fatima Sana and former captain Sana Mir are the five Pakistan players travelling to the UAE.

Players have lauded the initiative. PCB has also unveiled a jam-packed schedule for women’s cricket for the rest of the year. Featuring tri-series, international tours and newly established domestic tournaments for the U-19 age group. The PCB strives to create a proper structure to push young talent from around the country.

Former Skipper Sana Mir has stated that she has always insisted on a women’s PSL. Sana Mir will be leading the South Coast Sapphires, while Fatima Sana will represent the Barmy Army team. In addition, Aliya Riaz and Diana Baig will play for the Tornados.
