Sachin Tendulkar talks about his emotional moment with Virat Kohli

Sachin Tendulkar is regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time. His records as well as the aura that he built over his sporting career was a major factor for the Little Master’s fandom. Former Indian captain Virat Kohli has also stated many times in the past that it was Tendulkar who inspired him to pick up the cricket bat. Kohli looked up to him and the mentor recently shared a story about a special moment the two greats shared nine years ago.

In a chat with Graham Bensinger, Tendulkar spoke about his final Test Match and how Virat Kohli tried gifting him something which was really close to his heart.

“I was sitting in one corner alone with a towel on my head and wiping tears and I was really emotional. And at that time, Virat Kohli had come to me and Virat gave me the sacred thread that his father had given him.”

Virat Kohli had lost his father during his teen years and Sachin knowing the significance of the thread soon returned it back.

“I kept that for a while and then returned it to him again. I said 'This is priceless and this has to stay with you and no one else. This is your property & you should have it till your last breath'. And I gave it back to him. So that was an emotional moment. Something which will be always there in my memory, forever.”

The Master Blaster represented India in 200 Tests, having made 15921 runs with 51 centuries to his name. Tendulkar also featured in 463 ODIs, making a staggering 18426 runs with 49 centuries and a best score of 200* to his name.

Ranji Trophy 2022 | Out of favour Ajinkya Rahane & Manish Pandey find form

Out of favour stars of the Indian national team - Ajinkya Rahane and Manish Pandey struck individual centuries on Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy. While former India captain Rahane scored a patient 108 off 250 against Saurashtra, Manish Pandey was particularly impressive hitting a rapid 156 off 121 balls. Manish’s counterattacking innings came after Karnataka were put in a spot of bother by Railways by being 3 down for 110 runs. Manish along with Siddharth KV stitched a partnership of 267 runs and put the domestic powerhouse in a strong position. It needs to be mentioned that Pandey was out of favour in the Sunrisers camp despite being an experienced campaigner with them. He tanked very badly in the first phase of the last edition’s Indian Premier League as SRH lost several games on a trot. On the other hand, this innings from Rahane might do a world of good for him as predicted by BCCI president Sourav Ganguly earlier. Ganguly publicly stated earlier this month that he would like to see both Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara go back in the domestic season to get rid of the chinks in their armour. Rahane’s innings today is a striking validation for the statement. There were impressive performances in the Ranji today, with S Sreesanth making an appearance in the long format after 9 years. He picked two wickets in his first innings. Barring Sreesanth, Yash Dhull made a century on his First Class debut for Delhi against Tamil Nadu.
