It was a special Sunday for West Indian batter Johnson Charles, as he broke a long standing T20I record of Chris Gayle.

In the second T20I match against South Africa, Charles made a mockery of a quality Proteas bowling attack and slammed the 'fastest' century by a West Indian batter in T20I cricket. He achieved the feat in just 39 balls, beating the previous best by Chris Gayle off 47 deliveries.

He came in at number three at the fall of Brandon King and didn't look back as the West Indian slammed the South African attack to all parts of the ground.

Often touted as a T20 specialist, Charles showed his batting prowess in front of a packed Centurion crowd and took West Indies to a commanding position in a game that South Africa have to win to level the series.

The destructive batter slammed 10 fours and 11 huge sixes as the Proteas bowlers had no answer to his onslaught.

By the time Charles departed back to the pavilion, he had amassed 118 off just 46 deliveries, at a strike-rate of 256.52
