SA vs IND | 3rd Test | Day 4: South Africa in cruise control at the end of first session

South Africa were on a roll in the first session on Day 4 of the third Test against India in Cape Town after they added 70 runs at the cost of just one wicket in the overnight score. The home side was 171/3 when the Lunch was taken, needing 41 more to win.

Beginning the proceedings at 101/2, Keegan Petersen and Rassie van der Dussen batting in a cautious manner to negotiate the first few hours of the day. Petersen was eventually undone by Shardul Thakur for 82.

One of the highlights of this first session was the drop catch from CHeteshwar Pujara who failed to hold on to a sitter in the slips from Petersen earlier in the day.

While the Proteas’ batsmen showed a lot of resistance, the Indian pacers too bowled in good areas and were pretty impressive with their line and length. The three-match series is presently levelled at 1-1.

Travis Head scored his second century of the series to propel Australia to a safe score on the first day of the final Test match at Hobart. Head slowed down for a fair bit when he was close to his hundred and looked nervous against the off stump line that England bowled at him. He completed his century in 112 balls, his second blazing hundred in this series and his fourth over all. Head put on 121 runs alongside Cameron Green who later scored another 50 in the series. After completing his 100, Head got out on the very next ball, having leading edged a ball to Ollie Robinson at mid on. At the time of writing, Australia were batting at 236/5 after 57.2 overs with Green and Alex Carey in the middle.

India’ Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane were already facing heat for their batting performance and Pujara has now added fuel to the fire that would put him further under the scanner. In one of the overs from Jasprit Bumrah in the second innings of the third Test, Pujara dropped a sitter. South Africa's Keegan Petersen had edged one to the slips and the ball went straight to Pujara who failed to grab it. South Africa were handed a target of 212 runs and were 145/2 at the time of writing. Petersen had notched up another fifty while Rassie van der Dussen was at 16. Earlier, the visitors had rode on a fantastic ton from Rishabh Pant to put 198 on the board. Apart from him, skipper Virat Kohli showed some resistance and patience while batting but only added 29 off 143 to the total.

WI vs IRE | 2nd ODI: Andy McBrine, Harry Tector take series into decider

Ireland equalised the three-match ODI series against West Indies after clinching a win in a rain-curtailed second encounter in Jamaica. The visitors were asked to chase a revised target of 168 runs in 36 overs. Williamson Porterfield and Paul Stirling began the proceedings in a decent manner putting up a partnership of 37 runs in 5 overs before Stirling was sent back for 21 off 15 by Akeal Hosein. The Irish side then lost Porterfield at a team team score of 60 but Andy McBrine and Harry Tector steadied the ship with a 54-run stand between them. While McBrine struck 35 in 45 deliveries, Tector remained unbeaten at 54 in 75 balls to anchor the side to a win by 5 wickets eventually. Earlier, the West Indies didn’t really get into the groove with the bat and lost wickets at regular intervals to eventually get bundled out for 229 in 48 overs. The hosts were left tottering at 143/8 but it was Romario Shepherd and Odean Smith who chipped in with a partnership of 58 runs for the 8th wicket. Smith eventually was dismissed for 46 while Shepherd went on to notch up a fifty. McBrine scalped a four-fer for Ireland while Craig Young scalped a three-wicket haul during the course. The decider will now be played on Sunday in Jamaica.
