SA vs BAN | "We want to win the Asia Cup, the World Cup and series overseas"- Mehidy Hasan Miraz

Bangladesh spin-bowling all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has credited senior players like skipper Tamim Iqbal, Liton Das and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan for their consistent support during the Bangladesh’s historic win in the first ODI against South Africa.

Miraz did not have a good start to the proceedings with the ball as he leaked 39 runs in his first five overs.

However, Tamim kept backing the youngster and his decision to bring the latter back for his second spell proved to be a decisive one.

Miraz went on to finish with figures of 4/61 in nine overs, which included the prized scalp of a dangerous-looking David Miller for a 57-ball 79.

Speaking to the media after Bangladesh's maiden win over the Proteas across formats in the Rainbow Nation, Mehidy revealed how Shakib's advice to vary his pace paid rich dividends.

"When I was leaking a lot of runs, I told Tamim bhai that he can trust me. I will get him the wickets," Mehidy said. "Litton da was also supporting me. He was constantly telling me that I can turn things around."

"I tried to bowl according to the merit of the wicket. I got a bit of turn from my end in the second spell. Shakib bhai told me to bowl slower. I always listen to Shakib bhai in tough situations. He has vast experience, and he usually assesses the wicket very well," added Mehidy.

"When I am in two minds or under pressure, I keep telling myself that I can do it. I think this is a good thing. I motivate myself," the 24-year old said.

Mehidy has played a crucial role in some of Bangladesh's memorable victories in the past few months. And he isn't done yet. The youngster wants to win the Asia Cup, World Cup and overseas for his side.

"It is not possible to look for progress if you don't have big dreams..We are dreaming big. We want to win more overseas series. We want to win the Asia Cup, the World Cup. We are following these plans and trying to stick to the right process".

Meanwhile, Bangladesh stunned South Africa in the first ODI and the visitors will now look to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The second ODI will take place on March 20 in Johannesburg.
