Royal Challengers Bangalore unveil new jersey for IPL 2022

After a long wait for the fans, Royal Challengers Bangalore finally revealed that Faf du Plessis will be their captain for the upcoming season of the IPL. They also launched their new jersey for IPL 2022.

Both fans and players were impressed by the new jersey of the Bengaluru side. The red and black jersey has a fierce look to it and will definitely suit the playing style of the team.

Ex RCB captain Virat Kohli did not shy away from praising the new jersey.

“I absolutely love it and the moment I wore it, I felt something special. I can definitely say, this is my most favourite RCB jersey, ever,” revealed Kohli.

Virat who had led RCB for many years had announced that the previous edition would be the last for his captaincy stint. Fans were speculating various names who could take over the leadership mettle but Faf was finally announced as the official skipper.

The other names fans were speculating were Indian wicket Keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik and Australian all rounder Glenn Maxwell. The Bangalore management and fans would be hoping that the right choice has been made and they can finally win their first title.

Speaking about the new jersey, it has a great combination of black and red and gives a bold look.

RCB has been one of the most popular teams in the history of the league. They have had some of the greatest players in their team and therefore the absence of a trophy has often left viewers surprised. A team which had the likes of Chris Gayle, Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Shane Watson playing together would definitely be expected to have a couple of trophies in their cabinet.

Fans would be hoping that the new captain and new jersey could bring them some more luck as well. IPL 2022 commences with a match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26. Royal Challengers Bangalore will face Punjab Kings in their first match on March 27.

Watch | Mayank Agarwal gets dismissed with a chaotic Run-out off a No-ball

Mayank Agarwal would have been delighted to play at his home ground. However, his outing did not go as he would have wanted as he was dismissed in a bizarre fashion when he was run out during the 2nd Test between India and Sri Lanka in Bengaluru on Saturday. On the fourth ball of the second over, Sri Lanka's Vishwa Fernando hit Mayank's pad first. The Sri Lankan players went up in a huge appeal, but the umpire was not convinced. Amidst the confusion, Mayank tried to sneak in a single without noticing that Praveen Jayawickrama had almost collected the ball. At the other end, Rohit Sharma sent Mayank after realising that he would not make it to the other end. However, the right-hander had charged too far down the wicket to return in time. Jayawickrama threw the ball back towards Sri Lanka keeper Niroshan Dickwella. Mayank had no chance to be back to the crease in time. Dickwella then started to signal for an LBW review before whipping the bails off. After taking off the bails, he made the 'T' signal again, but the third umpire informed that it was a no-ball as Fernando had overstepped. Therefore the run out stood; however, the wicket could not be given to the bowler." It was later seen in the replay that Mayank had edged the ball, and therefore there was no question of an lbw. However, it did not matter as the batsman had been run out. Rohit's reaction clearly showed how the captain was disappointed with his partner's dismissal. Watch the video below: Another very unlucky batsman was the former Indian captain Virat Kohli. He was given lbw off a delivery, which stayed very low. There was absolutely nothing that Kohli could do, and he was disappointed with how he got out. The Bengaluru crowd hoped to see a Kohli special and went silent with his dismissal. Sri Lanka had an excellent first session as they took four wickets of the Indians. Moreover, the pitch was seen misbehaving a lot and would only worsen as the match progressed. India finished with 93-4 going into the tea break.

IPL 2022 | Faf du Plessis takes over from Virat Kohli as RCB captain

Former South Africa captain and one of Chennai Super Kings’ top players last season, Faf du Plessis has been announced as the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore for the 2022 season. The South African was revealed as the new leader of the team in the RCB Unboxing event, being held today in Bangalore. The right handed batter was bought by RCB in the 2022 mega auctions for a massive Rs 7 crore after piling up runs in the 2021 edition. He was pivotal behind CSK’s success in the last edition piling up 633 runs alongside orange cap holder Ruturaj Gaikwad who pipped the former by 2 runs. The 37-year-old, while not being a long term solution, would bring in an able tactical mind and a bullish SA flare to the squad that is still searching for its first Indian Premier League trophy. Du Plessis is one of the powerhouses in the opening slot and has a reputation as an exceptional operator of pace. RCB will hope that he can form an able partnership on top with Virat Kohli after the Bangalore based franchise lost the services of Devdutt Padikkal. RCB released the rest of the teaser video of Virat Kohli where he stated that he could not be happier about the announcement of Faf du Plessis as the RCB captain. He emphasised on the relationship that he has had with the former SA captain and he cannot wait to get started alongside Faf. Speaking at the event, the former CSK player stated that he is raring to get started and looking forward to perform with the team.

SA vs BAN | 3 days after being rested, Shakib announces that he will tour South Africa

The Shakib Al Hasan vs Bangladesh Cricket Board drama continued on 12 March, Saturday, after the star all-rounder told his board that he will be travelling to South Africa. If reports coming out of local media in Bangladesh are to be believed, Shakib changed his decision about a mental health break after returning from Dubai. It needs to be noted that Bangladesh had given Shakib a break till April 30 after much-publicised drama between him and board president Nazmul Hasan. A trouble that has been brewing for a while now, saw Shakib getting a lot of stick from the board president for not prioritising national commitments. Despite the uncertainty over his availability, Shakib was contracted in all formats in the recently released roster from the BCB confirming that he is still in the board plans despite a straining relationship with the president. Speaking to the reporters in Mirpur, Shakib stated that he had spoken to the president and he will be available for all three formats and the board will take a call on when to rest him. Holding a joint press conference alongside the Nazmul Hasan, Shakib said, "Now, I am in a better situation. After going to South Africa, I may get better." While it seems like Shakib is confirmed to travel to the Rainbow nation for a three ODI and two Test tour that starts on 18 March, the BCB president clarified that the left hander's presence in South Africa does not mean that he will be playing all the games. "Please don't speculate. He can be in a state where decision making could be difficult for him," Hasan stated. Bangladesh will be staying in SA for their assignment till 12 April, but that should not be a problem for Shakib as he was not picked up by any team in the Indian Premier League mega auction held in February this year.
