Team India's star opening batters Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul put up an exhibition of their new attacking approach against Pakistan in the Super Four game being played at Dubai International Cricket Stadiums.

After Pakistan skipper Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bowl first, the Indian opening pair tried mounting pressure on the Green Shirts from the word go. The duo laid the launching pad by cobbling up a 54-run opening stand inside the Powerplay to give India a dazzling start in Dubai.

Following their 50-run stand, they have also achieved an unprecedented record of scoring most fifty-plus partnerships in the shortest format of the game at the international level.

Rahul and Rohit eclipsed Ireland's Paul Stirling and Kevin O'Brien, who had 13 fifty-plus stands in T20Is, to reach the landmark. The duo added 54-runs in 31 balls before Rohit Sharma perished for 28 off 16 balls off Haris Rauf's bowling.

Most 50-Plus Stand in T20Is

  • Rohit Sharma & KL Rahul: 14 - 1319 runs
  • Kevin O'Brien & Paul Stirling: 13 - 1083 runs
  • Andy Balbirnie & Paul Stirling: 12 - 871 runs
  • Kyle Coetzer & Harry Munsey: 12 - 1042 runs
  • Martin Guptill & Kane Williamson: 12 - 1068 runs

KL Rahul, who was seen struggling in the shortest format in recent times also showed signs of finding his mojo back, whacking 2 sixes and a boundary for his 28-ball 20.

After the blazing start given by Rohit Sharma and Rahul, former skipper Virat Kohli capitalised on it by playing a sensational knock, registering his second consecutive half-century of the tournament.

Kohli's flamboyant knock of 44-ball 60 helped India finish up with 181 on the board despite their middle and lower order failing to fire with the bat.
