The star Indian wicketkeeper batter, Rishabh Pant, is all set to return to competitive cricket with the Ranji Trophy game after a long rehabilitation. The cricketer suffered a foot injury in the fourth Test against England and, since then, has missed Asia Cup and Test series against West Indies.

It has now been understood that the cricketer might play for Delhi in the upcoming Ranji season before he makes his international comeback against South Africa in the home Test series. According to a report from the Times of India, Rishabh Pant's right foot will be assessed in the coming week, and he is likely to be cleared by October 10.

Rishabh Pant likely to play against Himachal Pradesh

The TOI report also states that Rishabh Pant has already conveyed his decision to play for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy match. Thus, Pant is likely to play against Himachal Pradesh, the match that is scheduled to start on October 25.

Pant has said he should be available for the Ranji Trophy matches in Delhi from Oct 25. He has conveyed that it will be subject to fitness and clearance obtained from the BCCI medical team,” a top DDCA official told TOI.

However, the cricketer has not committed to any date at which he would join the Delhi camp, but whenever he is available, he is likely to lead the team, according to the DDCA official.

“Pant has not committed to any date when he can join the Delhi camp. He has requested to wait for clearance from the CoE. Playing the first-round Ranji Trophy match from October 15 would be very tight for him. If he is available, he is most likely to lead the team," the DDCA official told TOI.

Thus, in all likelihood, Rishabh would make his comeback against South Africa if everything goes well in the Ranji Trophy and assessment from CoE. India would play two-match Test series against South Africa that is slated to start on November 14.
