Reports: Justin Langer interested in taking up England's Head Coach role

Ex-Australian head coach Justin Langer is reportedly open to taking over as the head coach of the English cricket team.

According to reports from Daily Telegraph, the former Australian opener' would be open to the possibility of coaching England if approached.'

The report cited sources close to Langer, claiming that the former Aussie coach was 'interested in talking to the ECB about the vacant role'.

The search for England's Test team's new head coach has been on ever since Chris Silverwood was sacked in the wake of a horror Ashes drubbing this past winter.

Langer's name has been doing the rounds for some time now, with the interim director of cricket, Andrew Strauss admitting the same during media interactions.

"I know him well. On the surface, he's done a very good job of things with the Australian cricket team. So I wouldn't rule him out."

Langer resigned as Australia's coach at the end of the last home summer, citing a lack of support from senior players and management. Cricket Australia offered him a short-term renewal after that.

However, Langer isn't the only one interested in coaching England's men cricket team. Former captain Paul Collingwood, who coached Joe Root's team on an interim basis during the recently concluded tour of the West Indies, has made it clear that he wants an extended time in the role.

"I've enjoyed it more than I thought. I was a bit anxious and nervous, I've had experiences before with the Covid fixtures but this felt different. A lot different. I haven't got much experience as a head coach but you would never get a job if that's the case," said Collingwood after England's 0-1 series defeat to the West Indies.

He added.

"I've put my hat in the ring, and if they want us, they know where I am. They've seen what I can do, so they know where I am if they want us.

"I feel as though what I've done over the last few weeks is a good start but it's only a start. If I was to take this team forward I'd want to make them a lot better as quickly as possible," he signed off.

England must first appoint a permanent director of cricket, a position that has been left vacant since the sacking of Ashley Giles. Former Australian cricketer Marcus North is being tipped as the front-runner to take up that role.

BCCI announces tender for digital and media rights acquisition of the next IPL cycle (2023-27)

On Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) placed the tender to invite bids to acquire media and digital broadcasting rights for the next four-year cycle of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Indian board released a statement outlining the terms and conditions required for the interested parties to bid for the coveted rights. The statement read: "The Governing Council of the IPL invites bids from reputed entities to acquire the Media Rights for the Indian Premier League Seasons 2023-2027, through a tender process," "The detailed terms and conditions governing the tender process, including eligibility requirements, process for submissions of bids, proposed media rights packages, and obligations, etc. are contained in the 'Invitation to Tender' ("ITT"), which will be made available on receipt of payment of a non-refundable fee of INR 25,00,000 (Rupees Twenty-Five Lakhs Only) plus any applicable Goods and Services Tax." The BCCI is expecting a significant windfall, with the revenue expected to be close to Rs 50,000 crores. Star India acquired both the media and digital rights for a whopping Rs 16,347 crores back in 2018, but this time, the board is set to sell the broadcast and digital rights separately. There will be no consolidated bids category this time. Instead, the BCCI will invite bids across four categories- TV, digital, rest of the world and a new non-exclusive bundle of 18 matches as suggested by their partner KPMG. Apart from Disney Star, streaming websites like Viacom 18 (Reliance) and Zee-Sony are likely to bid furiously. The board is also expecting likes of Amazon Prime, Meta, Netflix, etc. to break the bank to acquire digital rights. The BCCI will conduct an e-auction for the bidders, and the final results are likely to be announced after the completion of the 15th season.

IPL 2022 | 'If we win the IPL, I would be very emotional thinking about AB first', says Virat Kohli

Former India and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli has recently revealed that it would mean a lot to his former RCB teammate AB De Villiers if the franchise manages to lift the IPL trophy. The ex-skipper has also admitted that he would be very emotional thinking about the former South African great if that happened. Expressing his views on RCB's 'Bold Diaries', the legendary Indian cricketer stressed that although De Villiers has been retired from the IPL, RCB's victorious IPL campaign would mean a lot to him as he has an unconditional love for the franchise. "The other day, it got me thinking, if we manage to win the title in the coming seasons, I would be very emotional thinking of him first. It would still mean a lot to him even if he is watching the game from home. He is a special human being as he has touched everyone, and we all can vouch for that," Kohli told Danish Sait in the video. The Delhi-born batter also revealed that he had got some hints of De Villiers announcing his retirement from some of the latter's unusual behaviours during the last season. "Our rooms were next to each other. So every time we walked to our rooms and he would see me outside, he would be like 'I want to see you for coffee, one of these days'. I was like 'I am not sitting with you because I think something is coming' to which he always said, 'No man there is nothing, I just want to have a chat with you' and he never speaks like that because we interact all the time," Kohli said. Despite being aware of De Villiers' plans to quit cricket, Kohli admitted that he was very emotional after receiving the former's voice note. Kohli said, "I got a voice note from AB de Villiers while we were driving back home from Dubai after the world cup. It is a very strange feeling and I got very emotional. The voice note was very emotional as well for me when he said, 'Look I don't have it in me anymore." Regarded as one of the finest ever to hold a cricket bat, De Villiers represented RCB in 11 seasons. AB and Kohli have won many games for RCB in the past. RCB, who began their IPL 2022 campaign with a defeat at the hands of PBKS, will play their second match against KKR on Wednesday.
