  • Ranji Trophy 2022 Suved Parkar Delivers On His Promise Of Scoring Big On Debut

Ranji Trophy 2022 | Suved Parkar delivers on his promise of scoring big on debut

Suved Parkar hit a double century on his first-class debut and became the second Mumbai batter to achieve the milestone, after current Mumbai coach Amol Muzumdar. He became the third player to score a double century on their debut this season.

The batter took a single off Swapnil Singh towards long off during the second afternoon of the Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Uttarakhand.

Earlier on Day 1, Parkar scored 104, taking Mumbai to 304 for three at the end of day's play in the Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Jay Bista led side.

After receiving his Ranji cap from WV Raman, Parkar came to bat at number four after Mumbai lost both of their openers, Prithvi Shaw and Jaiswal, as the scored board read 64 at the loss of two wickets.

The 21-year-old was never expecting a century on his debut but was ready for every challenge up front.

"I never expected to score a hundred on my Ranji debut, but I had the belief that if I get a chance, I will give my 100 per cent and make it count," Parkar told Mid-Day from Alur after the end of Day 1.

"I want to score big", and he did!

On Monday evening, Parkar showed his hunger to score big and start from absolute zero on Day 2. A century on debut was not enough for him, and he wanted to continue to score even more the next day. "It's a nice feeling to score a century on debut, but I want to score big. So I will start a new inning tomorrow (Tuesday)from zero again," Parkar said on Monday.

And he comes out to be the man of his words. He walked his talk. Suved, who started the Day 2 on 104, went on to make a double century and finally got run out at the score of 252, courtesy of a direct hit from Kunal Chandela.

He further reflected the support he received from his coach Amol Muzumdar, who was later joined by Parkar as the second batter from Mumbai to score a double century on his FC debut.

"Amol sir (Amol Muzumdar) told me to play with positive intent and just try to carry on from my good performances in the recently-concluded U-25 CK Nayudu Trophy," he added.

A Dinesh Lad's coaching student, Parkar was coming off a brilliant Col CK Nayudu Trophy campaign with Mumbai. The right-hander scored 601 runs at an average of more than 66 and finished the tournament as the second highest run-getter.

This performance earned him a spot in Mumbai's Ranji Trophy squad for the first time and also allowed him a place in the playing XI in the absence of veteran Ajinkya Rahane.

Parkar's 252 came after facing 447 balls, including 21 boundaries and four sixes. It is the fourth highest score by an Indian on debut and the fifth highest in the history of first-class cricket.

Mumbai declared the innings at 647 for eight after the wicket of Suved Parkar.
