The Rajasthan Royals have signed up South African left-arm spinner Tabraiz Shamsi for the remainder of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League.
Shamsi has been excellent for the Proteas in the recent past in the shortest format of the game at the international level and hence his inclusion in the Royals camp should not come as a surprise. He is the number one bowler in rankings for bowlers in international T20 games.
The second part of the tournament is due to be played in the UAE and the Royals management must have weighed Shamsi’s performances on slower and lower surfaces in West Indies before signing him up.
The Royals have suffered many setbacks in the 14th edition as first their ace pacer Jofra Archer did not take part in the first part of the competition. It was followed by an injury to Ben Stokes and the withdrawal of Liam Livingstone midway through the tournament.
Later, just a few days back, Jos Buttler announced that he will not take part in the second part of the tournament due to be played in the UAE in September.
The Royals did not have a great run in the tournaments far and the team under the new captain Sanju Samson will be desperate for a turnaround in the UAE.
