India’s Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane refused to speak on the controversy surrounding former India Test batsman Wasim Jaffer. Responding to a question on the issue, Rahne said that he wouldn’t be able to comment as he has no idea about the issue.
"Sir, I don't have an idea regarding this issue, what has happened, so I don't think that I should comment on this topic, because I don't have an idea," Rahane told the reporter during a virtual press conference ahead of the second Test between India and England.
Rahane, 32, has played with Jaffer for a long period of time, being teammates at Mumbai, West Zone and even at the Indian Oil Corporation.
Jaffer, 42 had resigned from his post of head coach of the Uttrakhand team citing bias and interference from the secretary of the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand, Mahim Verma. Verma, in connivance with team manager Navneet Mishra then brought in the communal row, saying that Jaffer used to favour players of a certain community.
Jaffer then went to Twitter and categorically denied all the charges labelled against him. Former India cricketers Anil Kumble, Irfan Pathan and former Bengal skipper Manoj Tiwary came in support of Jaffer.
Jaffer the domestic cricket stalwart played 31 Tests for India, scoring 1944 runs at an average of 34 with five hundred and 11 fifties.
