PSL 2022: Tim David, Rilee Rossouw unleash batting masterclass as Multan Sultans post 217/5

Multan Sultans' Tim David was on song against Islamabad United in the PSL 2022 fixture in Karachi after he hammered 71 off 29 against them, a knock that included six maximums and as many fours during the course.

The Sultans lost an early wicket in the form of captain Mohammad Rizwan who was run out for 12 off 11 and opener Shan Masood was then joined by Sohaib Maqsood in the middle.

The two batters put up 35 runs on the board for the second wicket but Masood was undone by De Lange as he was trapped in front of the stumps for 43 off 31 while Maqsood was also run out for 13 off 11 leaving the side at 78/3 in just over 10 overs.

But what unveiled next was just a batting masterclass from David and Rilee Rossouw as the two stitched a partnership of 110 runs for the fourth wicket. Rilee Rossouw scored an unbeaten 67 off 35 as Sultans eventually posted 217/5 in 20 overs.

BPL 2022 | Shakib Al Hasan's brilliant show hands Fortune Barishal another win

Fortune Barishal grabbed another win in the BPL 2022, courtesy of some fine bowling from the unit against Chattogram Challengers after they were bowled out for 135 in the final over while chasing 150. They lost an early wicket after Will Jacks was dismissed for a five-ball duck but Afif Hossain and Shamim Hossain did the rebuilding job with a partnership of 70 runs before Afif departed for 39 off 32. His dismissal was followed by a flurry of wickets as the Challengers reduced to 96/7 to eventually get bundled out. Mehidy Hasan tried to chip in with a few runs as he scored a 13-ball 26 but his efforts weren't really enough as the side fell short by 14 runs eventually. Mujeeb Ur Rahman produced some brilliance with the ball after he returned with figures of 3/9 in 4 overs while Shakib Al Hasan also bagged a three-fer for 23 runs in 4 overs. Earlier, the Barishal side also had a disappointing start to the proceedings but fifty from Shakib and valuable contributions from Gayle and Towhid Hridoy helped the side put 149 on the board before getting all out in just over 19 runs. Mrittunjoy Chowdhury picked up four wickets for 12 runs in 2 overs. On the other side, Shoriful Islam also scalped a couple of wickets for 9 runs in 2.1 overs. "From the last game, I'm feeling bit more confident. The team is shaping up, they know what they need to do, so relaxed. Batting well upfront in the powerplays and not finishing the game with the bat we still have issues - these are the two areas we are looking to improve. The good thing is we are still winning without playing our best cricket," Shakib said after the match.

It’s a surprise for everyone: Hardik Pandya on bowling

India all-rounder Hardik Pandya who will now be leading the Ahmedabad franchise has opened up about his bowling and said that it's a "surprise" for everyone but further added that being called an all-rounder is better than just a batter. “It’s a surprise for everyone,” Hardik said during his first official interaction as the Ahmedabad franchise captain. “I have realized, me as an all-rounder gives a lot of options to the team and I have tried to remain an all-rounder. If something does not work out (with the ball), my batting is always there,” Hardik said. “For me, as an invidual, Hardik Pandya, who can bat and bowl sounds a lot better than just a batter.” Talking about Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma and their captaincy ablities, Pandya named the qualities that he would want to take up as he dons the skipper's hat. “From Virat I would pick his aggression, passion, energy which is tremendous to be honest. With Mahi bhai, I’ll pick his composure, calmness, to be the same guy in every situation, trying to think what more he can add,” Hardik said. “And with Rohit, I would pick that he lets players decide what to do. I’ll take these three qualities from them and I think it will be a very good combination," he added. The IPL 2022 mega auction is set to take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. The Ahmedabad-based franchise and Lucknow Super Giants are the two new teams in the competition making it a 10-team tournament.
