PSL 2022 | Thorough dominance from Multan Sultans stretches their winning streak

Multan Sultans rode on an all-round show against Peshawar Zalmi to clinch a win by 57 runs in the PSL 2022 match.

Chasing a mammoth 223 in 20 overs, the Peshawar team lost wickets at regular succession and were reduced to 93/5 before eventually getting restricted to 165/8 in 20 overs.

Ben Cutting top-scored for them with an unbeaten 52 off 31 while Zazai scored 43 off 32 but their efforts weren't enough to take the team over the line.

Imran Tahir was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up three wickets for 25 runs in 4 overs for his side.

Earlier, in the day, the Sultans' batting unit thoroughly dominated the Peshawar bowlers and posted a huge total of 222/3 on the board.

While Rizwan scored 82 off 53, Tim David chipped in with a 19-ball 51* for his side.

"It's nice to see we got over the line tonight. The batters set the tone with such a big score and our bowlers did well to pull things back. Five wins a row, can't ask for anything more. It was a great bowling spell by me, I stuck to my plans. Dahani is a big guy for us, I wish him all the best," Tahir said after the match.

Multan Sultans posted a mammoth 222/3 in 20 overs against Peshawar Zalmi in Karachi. The Sultans were off to a good start after openers Shan Masood and Mohammad Rizwan chipped in with a partnership of 85 runs for the first wicket. Masood was eventually out for 35 of 25 but Rizwan continued with his onslaught and ended up getting a 53-ball 82 balls. Later, Tim David's brisk and unbeaten 51 off 19 which included six sixes and a couple of fours and Khushdil Shah's 21* off 7 helped the side to put up a big total on the board. "It's been a good start, happy to find my feet, nice feeling. I am happy that we got a good total, hopefully we can defend it and make five out of five. The ball was coming on nicely, we have to bowl well. Hopefully it's enough," David said after the innings.

England U19 batter James Rew played a brilliant knock against India U19 in the final of the World Cup but missed out on a well-deserved century by just five runs after he was undone for 95 off 116 deliveries by Ravi Kumar. England had opted to bat first after winning the toss but were off to a miserable start as they lost a few early wickets and were left tottering at 91/7 before Rew and James Sales joined hands and stitched a stand of 93 runs for the 8th wicket. Rew was Kumar's third wicket in the innings.

Justin Langer stepped down as the head coach of Australia, putting an end to the uncertainty around his future for the national side. Langer was given a six-month extension but declined the offer amidst the reports of players not fond of his headmaster-like attitude. Taking the charge of the position after the infamous ball-tampering saga, Langer made Australia a likeable team within the cricketing circle. Australia won the T20 World Cup in 2021 and then laid their hands at the Ashes urn twice in his tenure. "This was not a healthy process. This was a bloke (Langer) that won the Ashes, stayed back basically in Melbourne for the entire time while this dragged on for a month. The whole thing just reeks of being orchestrated from basically the moment all of this garbage started coming out in the middle of last year," the former Aussie opener blamed players for Langer's resignation. Taskin Ahmed to miss remaining fixtures of BPL 2022

Bangladesh bowler Taskin Ahmed will be missing the remaining fixtures of the Bangladesh Premier League due to the recurrence of a back injury. "Taskin's back injury is an old one. He informed us that he's feeling the pain after the Chattogram phase. We did an MRI after that and it revealed the injury as an old one," Sylhet franchise physician Joy Saha said on Saturday. "We can't take a risk with him right now as the Afghanistan series is coming up. We're evaluating all the possibilities to make him ready for that series. If his pain doesn't decrease, we can't play him in the BPL," added the Sunrisers official. In four matches that Taskin has played, he has scalped a total of five wickets in the competition.
