PSL 2022 | Peshawar Zalmi vs Quetta Gladiators | Match 22 Preview, Predictions, Fantasy XI

The 22nd match of PSL 2022 will see Peshawar Zalmi battle it out against the Quetta Gladiators at the Gaddafi Stadium on Monday evening (February 14).

With three victories after 7 games apiece, both sides have had a similar journey thus far and with the season approaching its business end, they just can't afford another blip.

Peshawar will come into this game after having registered a commanding 55-run victory over Karachi Kings.

The victory was set-up by the opening duo of Hazratullah Zazai (59 off 42 deliveries) and Mohammad Haris, who smashed a whirlwind 27-ball 49.

The middle-order backed it up with rapid cameos which helped Peshawar post 193/6 in 20 overs. It proved to be more than enough thanks to a disciplined bowling performance and questionable approach from Babar Azam and his batsmen. Left-arm seamers Salman Irshad and Wahab Riaz were the pick of the bowlers, claiming two wickets apiece.

Quetta, on the other hand, will look to regain the winning momentum they'd gained by stitching consecutive victories before suffering a comprehensive 8-wicket defeat against Lahore.

The batting-unit, which was instrumental in them chasing 200+ totals in successive games, proved to be Quetta's undoing in the last fixture thanks to the duo of Shaheen Afridi and Rashid Khan, which sent their top-3- Jason Roy, Ahsan Ali, James Vince cheaply.

Iftikhar Ahmed resurrected the ship with a 39-ball half century but it didn't proved to be enough as Fakhar Zaman (53 off 42 deliveries) and Kamran Ghulam (55* off 39 deliveries) made a mockery of their total of 141.

This will be the second time that these two sides will meet each other this season. In the first encounter, Zalmi scripted a five-wicket-haul after they chased down 190 in the last over thanks to brilliant knocks from Shoaib Malik (48* off 32 deliveries) and Hussain Talat (52 off 29 deliveries).

PSL 2022 | Maqsood shows nerves of steel as Islamabad steal win in thriller versus Karachi

Islamabad United's Waqas Maqsood bowled an exceptional final over to hand his team a win from the jaws of defeat against Karachi Kings in Lahore in a PSL 2022 fixture. Needing 8 off the final over with five wickets in hand, the Kings looked pretty steady to clinch a win but Maqsood turned the game on its head. Imad Wasim and Qasim Akram were at the crease and the two batters were looking in great touch. Maqsood bowled a dot delivery first-up but was hit for a boundary on the second one bringing down the equation to 4 off 4. The two batters had already stitched a stand of 108 runs for the sixth wicket but what unfolded next was simply a treat for the spectators. Maqsood removed Imad for a 28-ball 55 after he was caught by Alex Hales at mid-off. But the batsmen had changed ends during the course and Qasim was on strike now. The bowler then bowled a wide delivery and gave away a single on the next one bringing the equation down to 2 off 2. The new batsman Thompson was on strike now to face the penultimate ball but couldn't really help his side as he was cleaned up for a golden duck. The Karachi Kings now needed 2 off the final ball with Chris Jordan on strike. Maqsood bowled a slower length ball that Jordan mistimed but the bowler failed to grab a catch in his follow-through. Though, he was aware enough to not allow the batters to complete the single and take the match into the Super Over. Maqsood quickly recovered and threw the ball at the stumps on the non-striker's end to send Jordan packing for a first-ball duck and win the game for his side by 1 run. The Kings were restricted to 190/8 in 20 overs eventually. Qasim Akram remained unbeaten at 51 off 26. Earlier, Karachi had a struggling start to the chase as they lost wickets at regular intervals to get reduced to 80/5 before Imad and Qasim got into the act. Apart from these two, Sharjeel was among the runs as he struck 44 off 29. Waqas returned with figures of 3/34 in 4 overs. The Islamabad United also faced some issues with the bat as they too lost wickets at regular succession but a late surge from Asif Ali and Faheem Ashraf helped the side post 191/7 in 20 overs. Asif scored 28 off 11 deliveries while Faheem chipped in with a 10-ball 29. Imad Wasim was the pick of the bowlers after he scalped a couple of wickets for 30 runs in 4 overs. "The way the team fought, felt good. Mindset is always positive in every match. Have to play according to the situation. The first 10 overs we utilised well but then didn't bowl in our areas to concede 190. Their partnership brought us back in the game. Qasim came straight from the U19, played superbly," Babar Azam said after the match.

BPL 2022 | 1st Qualifier: Fortune Barishal register final berth with win vs Comilla Victorians

Fortune Barishal registered a final berth in the BPL 2022 after defeating Comilla Victorians in the first Qualifier in Dhaka. Chasing a target of 144 in 20 overs, the Victorians fell short by 10 runs as they were restricted to 133/7 eventually. The Comilla side had a decent start to the proceedings as Liton Das and Mahmudul Hasan Joy put up 62 for the first wicket in less than 11 overs but Joy's dismissal certainly broke the shackles as the side lost a few wickets in quick succession to leave the side in a spot of bother at 68/3. Later, Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali tried to steady the ship as the right-left batting duo stitched a 36-run stand for the fourth wicket. But Dwayne Bravo showed his experience and scalped the priced wicket of Moeen Ali for 22 off 15 and Faf followed him soon after being dismissed for 21 off 15 by Mehedi Hasan Rana. Sunil Narine though tried to make some contribution but couldn't take the team over the line. He was dismissed for 17 off 16. Shafiqul Islam returned with figures of 2/16 in 4 overs while Mehedi Hasan Rana had a couple of wickets to his name at the cost of just 15 runs in 3 overs. Bravo also returned with impressive figures of 1/26 in 4 overs. Earlier, in the day, the Barishal side looked steady at the start of the innings as they had put 84/2 in less than 10 overs but they lost wickets at regular intervals to get reduced to 110/6 before getting restricted to 143/8 in 20 overs. Munim Shahriar top-scored with 44 off 30. Shohidul Islam scalped three wickets for 25 runs in three overs. "Throughout this tournament, our bowlers have stood up. We knew our bowling line up can defend anything. But we should have scored more. Hopefully one match to go and our openers will do well," Shakib said after the match. The Victorians will now lock horns with Chattogram Challengers in the second qualifier and the winner of this game will meet Barishal in the title clash.
