PSL 2021: All you need to know about squads, venues, teams, players & crowd entry in stadiums

The sixth season of the Pakistan Super League will begin from 20th February when Karachi Kings will take on Quetta Gladiators at the National Stadium in Karachi. The two teams have previously won the title once each and would be vying for the big prize once again alongside four other teams.

The tournament is going to be a 30-day affair with matches being played at Karachi and Lahore for the entirety. The league stage would go on till 16th March while the Playoffs would begin from 18th.

In the stadiums, 20% crowd would also be allowed for the games. The number might be raised to 30% subsequently, depending upon the situation of the Covid-19 in the country.

"Fans are the PCB's biggest asset and we are delighted that no matter a small number, but some will be able to have access to the matches," board chairman Ehsan Mani was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo "Their presence will add flavour and excitement to one of the biggest and most challenging leagues in the cricket calendar. We understand not everyone will get an opportunity to watch the matches due to the limited number of seats, but these are baby-steps and considering that most of the sport events are being played in empty stadium, this is a positive achievement and a step in the right direction."

Meanwhile, the PCB and NCOC will keep on monitoring the situation and a decision will be taken whether to allow a further 10 per cent after the group stage of the tournament.

"I am optimistic that if we can maintain strict protocols during the PSL 2021 matches we will have a strong case for more fans in the 2021-22 season in which we have to host high-profile international teams such as New Zealand, England and the West Indies as well as quality domestic events, including the National T20 Cup, Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and the Pakistan Cup," Mani said.

Another setback for Kuldeep, fit Axar likely to replace Nadeem in second Test

Indian chinaman Kuldeep Yadav might have to face yet another setback in the second Test in Chennai. With rumours flying around that Shabaz Nadeem might be benched for the next game, Axar Patel might get a nod for debut ahead of the left-arm wrist spinner. Yadav despite picking up a 5-wicket haul in his last Test, back in 2019 might get snubbed once again for a better combination. It needs to be noted that Axar Patel was originally slated to make his debut in the first Test in Chennai but was ruled out due to injury. “Axar had a minor niggle in the knee and has already started batting in the nets. He is expected to start bowling in the next couple of days,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying to PTI. “He was always the first choice for the opening Test, but a lot will now depend on skipper Virat Kohli, bowling coach Bharat Arun and Ravi Shastri on who finally makes the cut,” the source added, indicating that as and when Nadeem is replaced, the chances of Axar playing his first Test would be more than Kuldeep getting a callback. In First-Class cricket Axar has 134 wickets in 39 games at a good enough average of 27.38. At the same time, he is handy with the bat as well having scored 1665 runs at an average of 35.42 with 13 fifties and one hundred to his credit. Nadeem picked up only four wickets in the first Test and bowled nine no balls to wreck his chances of playing another game. The second Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, same venue as the first one would start from 13th February.

All 15 thousand tickets for second Ind-Eng Test sold out in 60 minutes

The second Test between India and Egland will see the audiences attending a sporting event for the first time ever in India since the first covid-19 lockdown was imposed in March 2019. A total of 15 thousand tickets were up for sale out of the 33,500 available for the public in the entire stadium and within the first 60 minutes of the opening of the sale on Paytm’s official app, all the tickets were sold out. "The tickets (for the second Test match between India and England) have been sold out. In less than an hour, around 10,000 tickets were sold," Moneycontrol quoted RS Ramasaamy, Secretary, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) as saying. The TNCA, however, revealed that out of the 15 thousand available tickets, around four thousand were blocked for members and only 10 thousand were on sale for the public. The range of the tickets fell between Rs 100 and Rs 200. Talking about the safety precautions for the public, Ramasaamy explained that the board has made necessary arrangement for sanitisers and temperature check systems. “We have 17 entrances to the stadium, and we are going to have people manning them with hand sanitisers and temperature checks. Plus, a mask is mandatory. There are medical kiosks on the ground. In addition, we have an isolation room, medical room and we have four ambulances placed on the ground,” Ramasaamy said. Having won the first Test in Chennai itself, England would come with more vigour in the second one starting from 13th February at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Windies on the cusp of ending 9 years old dry run in Asia

After the heroics of Kyle Mayers with the bat in the fourth innings of the first Test match against Bangladesh, West Indies are within touch to break a nine-year-old dry run. After chasing down an incredible final innings total of 395 runs owing to Kyle Myers' debut 210* on the last day in Chattogram, the Marooned cap army is now looking to break a long-standing dry run in Asia. Last time a West Indies team won a two (or more) match series against an Asian side was way back in 2012 when Tino Best with the ball and Shivnarine Chanderpaul with the bat shone to take West Indies to a 2-0 win over Bangladesh. Now with the second Test scheduled to take place at the Sher-E-Bangla stadium, the West Indies team is ready to take the series and break the nine-year deadlock. “We have to make sure we don't go backwards again. We are trying hard to put things in place so that we don't go in that direction," said Phil Simmons, wary of the fact that a second strung Windies team could very well roll over easily as they did in the first innings of the first Test. Bangladesh, depleted in resources after Shakib Al Hasan and opening batsman Shadman Islam were ruled out, are still the favourites going into the Dhaka Test and would look to pull one back to square the series. “We lost, but we got some positives. We played the first innings as a team, and we dominated first four days,” said the Tigers skipper Mominul Haque, who in the last test became the first Bangladeshi to score 10 centuries in Test cricket, after his second-innings hundred.
