Hina Munawar, a police officer with a strong background in security and operations, has made history by being appointed as the first female manager for the Pakistan men’s cricket team. This comes just ahead of the Champions Trophy, one of the biggest cricket events.

Munawar’s career has been shaped by her experience in law enforcement and security. She has worked in high-risk areas like the Swat region with the Frontier Constabulary, a force responsible for maintaining security in some of Pakistan’s most dangerous regions. Her role in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) comes after a long history of holding strategic and leadership positions in the police force.

"Perhaps her appointment is aimed at streamlining operations within the team and between players and the board, as she has worked in strategic and leadership roles, helping to streamline various operations," a source close to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) told PTI.

Appointment for the Champions Trophy and Tri-Nation Series

As part of her new role, Munawar will be responsible for managing operations for the Pakistan men’s team during the Champions Trophy, as well as the upcoming Tri-Nation series, which begins in Karachi on February 19.

While veteran Naveed Akram Cheema remains the official team manager, Munawar’s role will focus on streamlining operations and ensuring smooth communication between the players and the board.

Munawar’s appointment is not just a personal achievement, but a milestone for women in Pakistan’s law enforcement and sports sectors. She made history as the first female district officer in the Frontier Constabulary, a role that is traditionally dominated by men.

Munawar joined the PCB last year and was also appointed the manager of the Pakistan women's under-19 team for the Asia Cup. Her experience and leadership skills are expected to bring a fresh perspective to the male-dominated cricket setup, helping the PCB to organise and streamline team management in a more efficient and structured way.
