Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) management committee chairman Najam Sethi, has announced the appointment of Haroon Rasheed as the new chief selector of the national side replacing interim selector Shahid Afridi.

To the unversed, the entire selection committee was sacked by the newly appointed selector Sethi, who formed a new committee headed by Afridi where Rasheed was the convener for the New Zealand series. However, after this appointment, he would leave his current role and step up to take up a higher responsibility.

Rasheed was a former cricketer who has represented Pakistan in 23 Test matches and 12 ODI along with previously serving as the Director of Cricket Operations during the year 2017. Further, he was involved with the side in the capacity of manager during the year 2003 to 2005.

The 69-year-old apart from all this has served as the chief selector from 2015 till 2016 when he formed teams for Asia Cup and the 2016 T20 World Cup.

It is being reported that the rest of the panel will be named later when the PCB committee sits together to select the side before the New Zealand series in April.

Pakistan did not have a very fruitful 2022 as they failed to clinch even a single Test win during the entire year at home losing the series against Australia and England while drawing against New Zealand.
