PAK vs WI | The heat is going to be extreme, but it's for both sides: Phil Simmons

West Indies head coach Phil Simmons said that the Netherland's tour has helped his side prepare well for the ODI series against Pakistan starting June 8 (Wednesday).

Upon West Indies' arrival in Pakistan, head coach Phil Simmons expressed his delight in touring the country again and said that the team is well prepared after a successful series win against the Netherlands.

"We'll try to make the guys understand what they have to do personally to hydrate themselves properly both before, during, and after the games," West Indies head coach Phil Simmons said on Tuesday.

"The heat is going to be extreme, (but) Pakistan are playing in the heat, too, so it's going to be an even contest when we start the day. How we deal with it before, during, and after is going to help us a lot,"

"That series was good in a way because it gave guys a chance to settle in as a team," Simmons said. "It's a young team. It's a case where we needed to play properly. We needed to keep improving, and we did that during the series, so it was a good preparation,"

The three ODI matches between the two former world champions will be a part of the International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI Super League. West Indies and Pakistan will have the opportunity to secure points to try and secure one of the top seven places, excluding hosts India, to gain automatic qualification for the 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.

When asked about his expectations for the matches against Pakistan, the ex-West Indies cricketer said that his prime focus is on winning the three games and taking the points.

"I do not go with expectations. My focus is on how we can win the games so that we get points out of this to improve our position in the table,"

It's expected to be extremely hot and humid in Multan for the series, and talking about the same, Simmons said that the players would have to adapt to the conditions and keep themselves hydrated. So it will be an even contest, and it all depends on how we recover ourselves after being on the field for 50 overs.

"The heat is going to be extreme, (but) Pakistan are playing in the heat, too, so it's going to be an even contest when we start the day. How we deal with it before, during, and after is going to help us a lot," concluded Simmons.

The West Indies ODI squad has already reached Multan to take on Pakistan in a three-match series set to begin on June 8.
