Pakistan’s opening pair Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan overhauled England’s 199-run total with ease. The two cricketers formed an unbeaten 203-run stand at the top to register a remarkable 10-wicket win for their side.

The win also brought the seven-match T20I series to levelling terms, after the ‘Men in Green’ had lost the opening contest by six wickets.

After the match, a dejected England skipper Moeen Ali talked about what went wrong for his side in their humiliating loss to the hosts.

Moeen Ali regrets his over, dropped chances

England captain Moeen Ali bowled just one over during the Pakistan run-chase. Both Azam and Rizwan took him to cleaners when he brought himself to bowl the 13th over of the innings. The all-rounder conceded 21 runs with three sixes in the over, as the momentum rapidly shifted towards the hosts.

After the match, Ali expressed his regret over the one-over gamble by highlighting it as the turning point of the high-scoring bout. He stated that England had the match under control until his short spell, which ultimately accelerated the Pakistani innings.

“The momentum changed when I bowled my over. That really gave them the belief and after that they were almost unstoppable. I felt like it was under control for most of it. I genuinely feel my over lost the game for us. That was a gamble on my part. I went to try and get a wicket, almost buy a wicket. Obviously, it didn’t work and that’s when Pakistan really won the game.”

The star all-rounder also talked about his side’s listless fielding efforts on the evening, one which included the dropped catch of Rizwan by Alex Hales. The skipper added:

“We dropped a big catch obviously. You can’t afford to drop them and you can’t afford to bowl an off-spinner to them at such a big time.”
