#OTD in 2015 | Mumbai Indians won their second Indian Premier League title

On this day, Mumbai Indians (MI) won their second Indian Premier League (IPL) title by securing victory by 41 runs against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2015 at Eden GardensKolkata

Mumbai had two wins out of three encounters ahead of the meeting, including the win in Qualifier 1

CSK won the toss and opted to field first and Faf du Plessis effected a brilliant diving run-out to dismiss Parthiv Patel for a duck. However, this wicket brought together MI's top run-scorers, Lendl Simmons and skipper Rohit Sharma

Rohit started to attack every CSK bowler with his drives and pull shots, and Simmons hit two sixes and four off Ravindra Jadeja's over to take the score to 63 in the powerplay.

The duo were terrific to secure at least one boundary each over, and the 'Hitman' continued his love affair with Eden Gardens.

After reaching 50 off 25 balls with a stylish shot at the point region, the MI captain was caught at the long-on in an attempt to hit a maximum, with Dwayne Bravo being intelligent with his slower ball. However, Simmons (68) was bowled by Dwayne Smith's delivery in the next over.

After that, it was a perfect flourish from Ambati Rayudu and Kieron Pollard, hitting a quick 36 each, and the six in the final over from Harbhajan Singh helped the team post 202 on the board.

CSK lost Michael Hussey (4) in the fifth over and was stuttering at 22/1 by the fifth over. Then, it was a flurry of delightful shots by Smith to accelerate the team's run-rate, getting support from Suresh Raina at the other end.

After hammering Hardik Pandya in the 11th over of the game, Smith was adjudged LBW, with Harbhajan providing the breakthrough in the following over.

With over 100 runs needed in the last eight overs, it was too much for the middle-order as Raina was also stumped off Harbhajan. The likes of Dhoni and DJ Bravo could not do much as CSK managed to score only 161 and lost by 41 runs.

Sharma was named 'Player of the Match' and secured the second title for MI under his leadership.

IPL 2022 | ‘They are all human’- Sourav Ganguly on Rohit, Virat's poor run

With a busy cricketing season ahead, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma's form has become a major concern for the fans. Sharma delivered one of his worst performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the ongoing season. He ended up with only 268 runs in 14 matches at an average of 19.14 and a strike rate of 120.17. Also, this was the first time that he didn't score a fifty in the competition throughout a season. Not only batting but many questions were raised about Rohit's leadership skills as well. The opening batter is one of the most successful captains in IPL. He has led his franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) to five IPL trophies. However, MI failed to live up to their reputation in the 2022 season as they ended up at the last place. The team won just four out of 14 league games. While Rohit's form is a cause of concern for many fans and cricket pundits, former Indian captain and current BCCI President Sourav Ganguly backed the batter to make a strong comeback. "Everybody is human. There will be mistakes but Rohit's record as captain is outstanding. Five IPL titles, Asia Cup winner, he has won whatever he has captained, so his record as captain is outstanding. Mistakes will happen because they are all human," Ganguly said during a promotional event. Apart from Rohit, former Indian skipper Virat Kohli is the other icon player going through a lean patch. The batter bagged three golden ducks during the league stage of IPL 2022. However, Kohli redeemed himself by scoring a match-winning 73-run knock in RCB's last game against Gujarat Titans (GT). The batter is now expected to continue the show as his team will play against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Eliminator on Wednesday. Ganguly was all praises for Kohli as he mentioned that it is only a matter of time for the batter to return to his dominating self. "They are very good players. I'm sure they will be back among runs. They play so much cricket that at times they go out of form. Kohli played very well in the last game, especially when it was required for RCB. That's why he (Kohli) was so happy that RCB qualified. They are all great players. It's a matter of time they will be at their best," the BCCI President mentioned. On comparison between Pant and MS Dhoni Further, the former Indian skipper elaborated on his opinion on the leadership skills of Delhi Capitals (DC) Rishabh Pant. The young wicketkeeper batter found himself at the receiving end of criticism after his team lost its last game to MI. Pant dropped an easy catch of Dewald Brevis while he also failed to take DRS when Tim David didn't even open his account. The two moments in the game proved to be decisive as David scored an 11-ball 34 to take Mumbai to victory by five wickets. "Don't compare Pant with MS Dhoni. Dhoni has so much experience, has captained in 500-plus games in IPL, Tests, and ODIs. So it's not fair for Rishabh to be compared with Dhoni," Dada concluded.

Ravi Shastri believes Mayank Agarwal is in the same situation as Ravindra Jadeja

The ongoing season of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 has not been kind to accomplished captains, let alone first-timers. Ahead of the start of the season, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchises announced new leaders in Mayank Agarwal and Ravindra Jadeja, respectively. Former India coach Ravi Shastri has come out and spoken about these appointments, saying both of them were in the wrong place. Speaking on ESPNCricinfo's web show, Shastri said, "Mayank Agarwal is in the same boat as Ravindra Jadeja. Guys who have never captained sides, you ask them to captain franchises." Agarwal captained the entire season with his side ending in the seventh position, while Jadeja gave up his role back to Mahendra Singh Dhoni after suffering six losses from eight games. The 59-year-old further added that Mayank's Test spot could have been in jeopardy. "This is no disrespect to Mayank. Because I love the kid. I know how he plays his cricket, how determined he is. But it's putting a guy who is very good at what he does in a wrong place. And it can have problems. Serious problems. Serious repercussions. It could have cost him his place in the Indian side. Test side, everything, because the selectors will judge on current form, they will judge on what they actually see," Shastri explained. Be very smart about who you pick as captain: Shastri The right-hander opener played 13 games and accumulated 196 runs, scoring just one fifty at a paltry average of 16.33. "So it hurts me because I know how good a player he is. But obviously, the pressures of captaincy will weigh on anybody's mind. You saw Jadeja turning out to be a different cricketer. Mayank Agarwal turned out to be a different cricketer. We know how good they are as individual cricketers. In future this is a strong message to the franchise to be very smart about who you pick as captain," the left-arm spinner concluded. Jadeja has an even poor season, scoring 116 runs and picking five wickets for CSK across ten games.
