Opportunity for Kohli to go back & prove everyone why he is the best batter: Shane Warne

There has been a lot of confusion in Indian cricket in the past couple of months or so regarding the captaincy issue. But amid the chaos, former Australia spinner Shane Warne has shown an optimistic approach towards the "batter" Virat Kohli.

Warne has said that the right-handed batsman should be given the chance of getting back to "being the best in the world".

"There is just so much expectation. It’s so difficult to be captain of India in all forms of the game and then play the IPL as well. Everyone looks for him to comment, to be the leader so I’m looking forward to watching Virat bat now," Warne told Hindustan Times in an interaction.

"Get someone else to take the captaincy, let someone else do all that and allow Virat getting back to being the best in the world. I'm really looking forward to that"

The right-arm spinner admitted that Virat has been a wonderful skipper for the Indian team but it's now time for him to show everyone why he is the best batter in the world.

"I was a little surprised like everyone. Virat has been a wonderful captain for India but it’s also very tough with the expectations of over a billion people," Warne said.

"So I think it's a great opportunity now for Virat to go back and prove to himself and everyone why he is the best batter in the world. And hope he can concentrate on his batting and start making hundreds in all forms of the game again," he added.

Kohli had a decent run in South Africa especially in the ODI series after he notched up a couple of fifties during the course.

Sharma was handed over white-ball captaincy after Virat Kohli stepped down from the post in T20I format. India had a dismal run in the three-match ODI series against South Africa away from home after they suffered a 0-3 defeat. Stand-in skipper KL Rahul is of the opinion that there were "massive learnings" and the side's major focus is on the World Cups. "There were massive learnings," Rahul told India Today.
