Naseem Shah’s Sixes Reminded Me Of Javed Miandad's Six: Babar Azam

Pakistan rode on Shadab Khan's all-around brilliance and some sensational hitting from right-arm pacer Naseem Shah in the final over to seal the game by a wicket in a low-scoring thriller against Afghanistan on Wednesday, 7 September.

Pakistan's emerging star Naseem Shah pulled a rabbit out of the hat as he clobbered two back-to-back sixes off Fazalhaq Farooqi in the final over to drive his side home with four balls to spare.

Speaking in the post-match conference, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam went on to compare Naseem Shah's sixes to that of Javed Miandad's last-ball six to Chetan Sharma against India in 1986.

Just like Naseem, Javed Miandad had also helped Pakistan register a one-wicket win over arch-rival India by smashing a last-ball six bowled at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the final of the Austral-Asia Cup.

"At the back of my mind, I have seen Naseem play like this earlier, and I had the belief in him. This moment reminds me of Javed Miandad's six. We would like to continue this momentum and not repeat our mistakes. Every day is a different day, and we would like to take it day by day."

Dressing room was very tense: Babar Azam.

Azam, who is currently enduring a run drought in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022, also opened up on the environment of the dressing room when Afghanistan sparked a turnaround by scalping quick wickets.

"To be honest, the dressing room was very tense. The team was walking in and out of the dressing room. Excellent with the way Naseem Shah finished it off. Sharjah is always low-scoring, and Mujeeb and Rashid Khan are two of the best bowlers."

"We just wanted to take the match deep. The way we started with the ball was excellent. In our batting, we didn't execute our plans very well, but Naseem was outstanding."

Pakistan's second consecutive victory in the Super four means that India and Afghanistan are now officially out of the tournament and Babar Azam & Co will lock horns with Sri Lanka in the summit clash of Asia Cup 2022.
