The captain of Chennai Super Kings, Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the first player to feature in 200 Indian Premier League matches after he stepped onto the field at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi against Rajasthan Royals. Asked about the feat, MS Dhoni was at his usual best of downplaying big moments and said “It's just a number. I have been fortunate to have played so many games," said Dhoni after reaching the iconic landmark in IPL.
Dhoni has been one of the prominent faces of the IPL since its inception and has led the men in yellow to three IPL titles and two Champions League titles. He has also featured in the Rising Pune Supergiants in the 2016 and 2017 editions when the CSK banned from taking part in the tournament. He is closely followed by his former deputy at the CSK - Suresh Raina who has 192 appearances and the captain of Mumbai Indians Rohit Sharma who has 197 appearances.
The Super Kings have struggled to keep their legacy of dominating the IPL seasons intact as the team has looked out of depth in both bowling and batting departments. MS Dhoni, too, has not been able to live up to the expectations of the franchise and its fans and the team has suffered six defeats out of nine matches played so far.
He has amassed 4,568 runs from 200 IPL matches with an astounding average strike rate combo of 41.52 and 137.67 over the years. He has also accounted for 149 dismissals that include 110 catches and 39 stumpings.
