Michael Vaughan backs Virat Kohli to get a hundred against England

Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli will be the player to watch out for as India takes on England in the one-off Test match scheduled from July 01 to July 05 in Birmingham.

All eyes will be on Kohli to end the quest for his 71st international hundred since November 2019.

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has backed Kohli to end his lean patch in Edgbaston. The veteran believes that the 33-year-old will be able to hit the magic figure of 100 if he can surpass the score of 30 in the rescheduled Test match.

The Delhi-born was in peak form when he toured England in 2018. However, the batting maestro wasn't at his best during the Test series last year. In four matches, he ended up scoring just 218 runs, including two fifties.

"The Indian player to look out for at Edgbaston this week is Virat Kohli. Just go back a few years when he produced one of the greatest Test match centuries on this ground. I think he's due. When you look back, how long has it been since he got three figures.

"It's been a long, long while for Virat Kohli, if he can get to 30, I reckon he's gonna get those three figures that he's been desperately wanting for such a long period of time. So, Virat Kohli, the Indian player to look out for," Vaughan said while speaking on Cricbuzz.

Furthermore, Michael Vaughan labelled England as the favourites to win the Test and end the five-match series at 2-2. The visiting nation gained a lead of 2-1 last year by winning the second and fourth Test matches.

However, England will have an edge in the rescheduled game as they are coming into this game on the back of a succesful three-match Test series against New Zealand.

Under the leadership of Ben Stokes, England hammered New Zealand 3-0 in the home conditions. On the other hand, India just played a practice game to get their rhythm back in the red-ball cricket. Their last Test series came against Sri Lanka in March.

"Edgbaston, England on the back of three wins against New Zealand, I see nothing but an England juggernaut carrying on. India have had lots of turmoil with selection, injuries, COVID issues. I see nothing but an England win. I think this England juggernaut of Baz and Ben combination will carry on at Edgbaston. I see nothing but an England victory, it maybe a hammering," Vaughan concluded.
