Matthew Mott on whether England could ring in the changes against Australia

England were beaten by Ireland in the T20 World Cup 2022 yesterday after rain played spoilsport.

The Irish were ahead via the DLS method and they were handed a crucial win

England are now left facing Australia for a do-or-die clash and it remains to be seen whether the Three Lions can step up and get the job done against their Ashes rivals.

Australia are on thin ice as well and they cannot afford to slip up against England.

England coach Matthew Mott has now revealed that England are unlikely to go ahead of excessive chopping and changing for the upcoming game. There could be one or two changes to the side but an overhaul is not on the cards.

England struggled with their bowling against Ireland and the Irish could have easily put on a total closer to 200 had it not been for a late collapse. Against a quality batting lineup like Australia, it could have proved costly for England.

Meanwhile, the top-order faltered while batting and the likes of Jos Buttler will have to step up against the Aussies.

Speaking to ICC, Mott said:

"We have played really solid cricket for the last month…we are not going throw the baby out with the bath water. It's just business as usual as we would. We'll go through the sessions, see who's pulled up well and make changes.

“But it is very unlikely to change the structure of the team. It might be a change here or two depending on how the bowlers pulled up.”
