The International Cricket Council has said that its erstwhile Chief Executive Officer, Manu Sawhney, who was sent on leave earlier this year will resign with immediate effect.
The global governing body of cricket has said that Geoff Allardice will continue in his role as acting CEO in cohesion with ‘the leadership team’ working with the board.
“…Chief Executive Manu Sawhney will leave the organisation with immediate effect. Geoff Allardice will continue as Acting CEO supported by the Leadership Team working closely with the ICC Board,” the world body said in a statement.
Sawhney was sent on leave earlier in March while the investigation was pending for what the ICC had called ‘abrasive behaviour.’ Sawhney did not accept the charge lying down and refuted allegations rating them ‘premeditated witch-hunt.’
Sawhney had taken over Allan Richardson after the ICC ODI World Cup in 2019 but has been blamed for his style of functioning. As per reports, he was not on best terms with the big cricketing boards of the world and that could well have been a reason for his untimely departure.
Reportedly, he was also isolated for supporting Imran Khwaja for the post of ICC Chairman while the position was eventually taken up by Greg Barclay in November last year.
