Lungi Ngidi Ruled Out Of 2023 World Cup? South Africa Call Rilee Rossouw Before Semifinals

As per emerging reports, ace South African batter Rilee Rossouw has been called up to India to participate in the ongoing ODI World Cup

The swashbuckling southpaw recently shared his flight details on social media X (formerly Twitter), where he mentioned Kolkata as his next stop.

Considering his post, it's expected that he might replace experienced seamer Lungi Ngidi, who sustained an injury during South Africa's latest league-stage encounter against India.

Ngidi, who had an off day with the ball, couldn't complete his quota of overs, with Marco Jansen bowling the last four balls of the Indian innings. However, he came out to bat after the Proteas lost eight wickets, being castled by Kuldeep Yadav for a duck.

South Africa replacing Ngidi with Rossouw makes sense, as they have quality backup pacers in Gerald Coetzee and Lizaad Williams. As their last game against Afghanistan is in Ahmedabad, we sense they will replace Ngidi with Coetzee, while keeping Rossouw in the reserves.

Hailed for his scintillating stroke play, Rossouw has represented South Africa in 36 ODIs, amassing 1239 runs at an average of 38.72 and a blistering strike rate of 94.36. Regarding South Africa, they are placed second in the standings and will face Afghanistan in their final league-stage game on the 10th of this month.
