Leus du Plooy to stay at Derbyshire till 2023

South Africa's Leus du Plooy has decided to extend his contract with the English county, Derbyshire, until the end of the 2023 season.

Du Plooy, who joined the county club in 2019, has so far scored 3,000 runs across formats for the side, which contains three First-Class 100s and one List-A hundred, which came against a visiting Australia A side.

In the ongoing T20 Blast, Du Plooy has scored 338 runs from 13 appearances and is their third-highest run-getter behind Shan Masood (516) and Wayne Lee Madsen (385).

Talking about Du Plooy's one-year contract extension, Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, in the Club's statement said, "Leus is an important player for us, he's our vice-captain in T20 cricket and one of our frontline batters, so this is a really positive contract extension.

"We talk about being the county of choice and having good players at the top of their game wanting to commit to the Club reinforces that message. This is an exciting time for our project, and we want to keep getting better," he added.

Du Plooy talks about his commitment for Derbyshire

The 27-year-old sounded pleased to continue his professional relationship with Derbyshire and looked forward to winning trophies with them.

"Derbyshire has become my home, and I'm so pleased to be staying for another season. I want to add to the memories I've created here and help to bring success to this Club and our supporters.

"Working with Mickey Arthur, Ian Bell, and the rest of our coaching staff has helped my development, and I'm really enjoying the responsibility of being a senior player within the dressing room.

I feel we're building something special here at Derbyshire and I'm looking forward to hopefully contributing to more wins and challenging for trophies," he concluded.

He also represented the Welsh Fire club in the first season of 'The Hundred' in 2021.

In the ongoing County Championship Division 2, the left-handed batter has scored 336 runs with three fifties.
