Ahead of the white-ball series against India, Sri Lanka received a serious jolt as Kusal Perera seems to be a doubtful starter for the upcoming fixtures. A Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) official confirmed that Perera didn’t train with the team owing to a shoulder injury. The seriousness of the injury is still unknown and a decision on Perera will be taken close to the match day. Sri Lanka are scheduled to play a parallel India side for three ODIs and as many T20Is between July and August.
Perera recently led Sri Lanka in a white ball series against England. They were outplayed in every department of the game and suffered 0-3 defeat in the T20Is and a 0-2 defeat in the ODIs. Following the whitewash, reports emerged that Dasun Shanaka was in line to replace Perera as the skipper. However, nothing has been confirmed yet.
“Medical staff have given an injection to him so he didn’t practice with the team yesterday and today. We have to take a call tomorrow, but it’s not looking good” an SLC official was quoted as saying by the NewsWire.
Meanwhile, the home team will be up against a second-string Indian side led by Shikhar Dhawan. As far as Sri Lanka is concerned, they are already without the services of Danushka Gunathilaka, Niroshan Dickwella and Kusal Mendis after they breached the bio-bubble protocols during their England tour.
