KL Rahul to undergo fitness test to confirm his participation in the Edgbaston Test: Report

Team India suffered a massive injury scare ahead of India's all-important one-off Test match against England next month as star opener KL Rahul is doubtful for the fifth and final Test of last year's incomplete series in England.

The Karnataka-born was about to make his T20I captaincy debut in the ongoing five-match series versus South Africa but was unfortunately ruled out of the entire series after suffering a groin injury on the eve of the series opener.

Earlier, reports from Cricbuzz suggested that Rahul's participation in the Edgbaston Test is under the scanner, and a final word on his availability for the England tour will be announced later this week.

“It is learnt that diagnosis of his complaint is not complete yet. Sources have indicated that his participation in the England series is doubtful but could not clarify if he will have to skip the white ball games as well.”

As per the report of 'Insidesport.in,' KL Rahul will undergo a fitness test at National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru on Saturday (June 18) and board the plane to the UK only if he clears it.

“It’s a slow process. His recovery has been slow, and that’s not a good sign. We have 3-4 days before the second batch leaves. There will be a light fitness test on Saturday. If he clears that, he will board the flight. If he doesn’t, we will wait for him to continue the recovery process. He is certainly not ruled out at this stage,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by InsideSport.

The first batch of the Indian team will fly to England on Friday (June 16), and another batch, which includes coach Rahul Dravid, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer, will travel to the UK on June 20. if Rahul clears the Test, he will join them on June 20 otherwise, he will remain in NCA to complete his recovery.

The one-off Test match is supposed to be played from July 1 to 5 in Edgbaston. This is the rescheduled fifth and final Test match which was postponed last year due to COVID-19 cases in the Indian camp. India currently leads the series 2-1.
