Jos Buttler looking to rotate the England squad to manage workload ahead of T20 World Cup

England's newly appointed white-ball captain Jos Buttler believes it's essential to manage the players' workload ahead of the T20 World Cup amid the busy schedule in the coming months.

England are set to play 12 white-ball matches in July-August against teams like India and South Africa. However, red-ball captain Ben Stokes has opted to skip the T20I series and will return for the ODIs.

Buttler reckons England might not field their best XI in the first few T20I games against India due to the tight schedule.

"The way the schedule is, you've got to manage players," Buttler told Sky Sports after the T20 Blast game. “We have to be very honest about that: with the T20s starting two days after this game here is due to end, it's not possible for guys to play all the cricket.”

England is scheduled to play seven T20Is against Pakistan in September-October, but the Test players could miss it because the red-ball series against Proteas ends on September 12.

"That maybe clashes a little bit with the Test matches," said Buttler.

The 31-year-old feels that the Three Lions will feature in the T20I series against Australia with their best XI, which is scheduled a week ahead of the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup.

"What's important for me, looking ahead to that World Cup, is we play three T20s against Australia before that World Cup starts and that would be the time I'd like to go into that series with what I think is going to be our team to start that World Cup."

Buttler reckons he was left out of the red-ball side due to his bad form. However, he praised the current England Test team for their terrific performance against New Zealand.

"To be honest, I wasn't worth my place in the side. I got left out on merit. I've got a great challenge with the white-ball team now, becoming captain as well. I'm really excited for that challenge and that's where all my energy is."

In the end, Buttler admitted that the new stint as a white-ball captain could keep him from trying to make a comeback in the Test side. The talented wicket-keeper last featured in England whites earlier this year against Australia.

"It's been incredible to watch - you're gripped to your seat, aren't you? To see what they're doing has been brilliant. I've loved watching them and I hope it continues. There's no red ball in my bag at the minute," concluded Buttler.
