According to the latest reports, the out-of-form Jason Roy might not be in contention for the England squad to tour Pakistan for a seven-match T20I series slated to be played this month.

Roy, one of England's key players in the 2019 World Cup triumph has endured a slump in his form in recent months. In the 2022 Summer, the 32-year-old has mustered only 78 runs in six T20I appearances, with a dismal strike rate of 78.

Furthermore, Roy failed to perform in the ongoing Hundred Men's competition as well. In six appearances for Oval Invincibles, he contributed only 51 runs at an average of 8.50, which was something unheard of, for a player of his calibre.

The squad for the Tour to Pakistan and Australia is likely to be announced on Thursday (1 September) by England and Wales Cricket Board(ECB).

With Jos Buttler sustaining a calf injury, Moeen Ali is likely to don the leadership role.

Contenders for Opening Slot in England T20I Team

With T20 World Cup scheduled in a month's time, the selectors will look to replace Roy with an experienced in-form batter for the opening slot.

Phil Salt

The talented keeper-batter has been consistent in recent months, whether in international or domestic cricket. In the Hundred 2022, Salt has slammed 313 runs at a strike rate of 154.18 and helped Manchester Originals to seal the playoffs spot.

Alex Hales

Although Hales has been left out of the squad due to disciplinary issues, he can earn a shock recall in the T20I side due to his current form. In eight innings of Hundred, the 33-year-old has garnered 251 runs at a strike rate of 154.93, and playing one of the key roles to take Trent Rockets to the Finals.
