James Vince extends contract with Hampshire till 2025

James Vince has extended his contract with Hampshire for a period of three more years and is set to be a part of the club at least till the end of the year 2025. The stylish English batsman, who made his first-class debut back in the year 2009, has been a regular in the Hampshire set-up since 2010. In the 405 games he has played for Hampshire, Vince has notched up 17666 runs across formats and has been serving as the captain of the club since 2015.

Vince has been a key member of the club since ages.  He was an integral part of the Hampshire squads that won two t20 titles in 2010 and 2012, one Royal London one-day title in 2018 and one County-Championship division two title back in 2014.

Talking about his recent performances for Hampshire, Vince was absolutely magnificent in the 2021 English season, which turned out to be a good one for the Southampton-based cricket club. He had a solid average of 40.80 in the County Championship last year and played some really impactful knocks including a mammoth 231 runs against Leicestershire.

Vince has said that he is delighted after extending his contract with Hampshire for three more years and he is proud to call the Ageas Bowl his home ground. He has also said that he has enjoyed his stint with Hampshire so far and is looking forward to bringing more glorious moments for the Southampton-based cricket club.

“I’m delighted to have extended my contract for a further three years. I’ve been with Hampshire since 2006 and am proud to call the Ageas Bowl my home ground,” Vince said. “I’ve enjoyed some fantastic experiences with the club and we head into the 2022 season with an exciting group of players and added motivation after coming so close in the 2021 County Championship. We’re looking forward to the start of the new season, one which will hopefully mark the beginning of a successful period for the club," he further added.

On the other hand, the Hampshire director of cricket Mr. Giles White has said that Vince being a terrific batter as well as captain is an integral member of the club and it’s really a pleasure to have him associated with Hampshire for three more years.

“James is not only a fantastic player in every format but also an excellent captain, so we are of course delighted that he has committed for the long term. He’s an integral part of the club and it’s great to have him leading the team in what promises to be an exciting period for the club," White said.

ICC Women's CWC 2022 | INDW vs ENGW: Despite hiccups, Knight takes England over the line

Despite a few hiccups, England managed to clinch a 4-wicket win against India in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 match in Mount Maunganui. Chasing a small target of 135 runs, England lost a couple of early wickets and were reduced to 4/2 before Heather Knight and Natalie Sciver came in for the side’s rescue. The two batters stitched a stand of 65 runs for the third wicket. Sciver was then sent back in the hut by Pooja Vastrakar for 45 off 46. Knight was then joined by Amy Ellen Jones in the middle and the two batters once again rebuilt the innings for the side with a partnership of 33 runs for the fourth wicket. But Jones’ departure for a personal of 10 off 28 was later followed by fall of a couple of more wickets in quick succession but that didn’t really stop England from clinching a win eventually. Knight returned unbeaten at 53 off 72. Mega Singh was the pick of the bowlers for India after she picked three wickets for 26 runs in 7.2 overs. Earlier, in the day, India were bowled out for 134 after Charlotte Dean rattled the batting unit and returned with a four-wicket haul. Opener Smriti Mandhana top-scored with 35 off 58 while wicket-keeper batsman Richa Ghosh chipped in with 33 off 56. “We definitely didn't have partnerships and it didn't go our way despite getting what we wanted after losing the toss. When you lose you always think you are short on runs. Getting 200 could have had the match go either way. Every game we've done well as a fielding unit. It is a department where we have improved. We need to work very hard with our batting,” Mithali said after the match.
