It’s amazing to think what we’ve done: England red-ball skipper Ben Stokes

The England red-ball skipper Ben Stokes has expressed satisfaction with the team's recent performances and hopes to continue the same form in the near future.

Under the new leadership of Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum, the Three Lions have secured victories in all their four Test matches, which included a series whitewash against New Zealand and a series-levelling triumph against India.

In the recent fixture at Edgbaston, England secured the highest successful run-chase of 378 in the longest format.

Last month, Stokes had already hinted to the England hopefuls to match the mindset and attitude of the current red-ball team.

The 31-year-old has reckoned that the team's performance has been rising since he has donned this role. He further added that the red-ball team wants to create a new legacy for the other teams to follow in international cricket.

"Every week that's gone by over the last five weeks, it's got better and better. It's amazing to think what we've done. That's what we want to do – we want to create a legacy of Test cricket. We have done that in white ball cricket, and we have seen other teams follow,"

Ben Stokes opens up on 'Nighthawk'

Stokes has coined the new term 'Nighthawk' in the red-ball format. The word is being used to replace the term 'Nightwatchman', who had the duty to see off the balls in the final few minutes of the play and keep the wicket of the key batter safe at any cost.

The talented all-rounder has revealed that the Nighthawk of the current Test team is Stuart Broad, who will have the role to score as many runs as possible in the last 30 minutes of the play and was excited to introduce novel ideas for growing the red-ball team.

"He might get 30 off 10 balls or 0 from 1," said Stokes. "We are looking at every situation we are going to find ourselves in and what the positive thing to do is. So, for example, we renamed what the Nightwatchman is all about. We called it Nighthawk,

"That was Broady. He was going out with half an hour left to play to try to slog literally. So that's where we are at the moment, and it's awesome," the skipper concluded.
