The final confirmation over the implementation of the impact player for IPL 2023 is finally revealed by the BCCI as no team will be allowed to use more than four foreign players in the entire match.

The three-page note sent by the board mentioned that the players swapped could only be Indian which in any case should not exceed the overseas player rule.

Further, if there are three or fewer players in the playing XI, then the international could be brought in as a substitute who could bat or bowl like any other player.

The advisory issued by the apex council stated,

"Only an overseas player who is part of 4 substitutes named in the team sheet can be used as an Impact Player. If a team introduces an overseas player as an Impact Player in a match, in no circumstance can a 5th overseas player take the field."

Also, the implementation of the rule does not allow the proposed player to lead the side during any part of the game.

This rule announcement could potentially play a vital role for the franchises to plan their strategy for the IPL auction, as it is scheduled for less than two days from now.

Moreover, the player would only come in before the commencement of the over, innings or fall of the wicket which would only be announced by the captain. The replaced player would not take further part in any capacity, not even as the fielder.

In addition, the 'impact player' cannot bowl the remaining deliveries of an over if he comes in at the fall of a wicket.
