IPL 2022 | 'That's not how game is played'- Rovman Powell reveals Warner's selfless act

David Warner showed his class against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and remained unbeaten on 92 off 58 deliveries. Even though he had the chance to complete his century, Warner turned down that offer from his batting partner Rovman Powell, who stunned the opposition with a fiery 35-ball 67.

Powell later revealed that he asked Warner about taking a single so that the DC opener could have reached his century, but the Australian cricketer rejected and instead asked Powell to go for the big shots himself. In the final over bowled by fast bowler Umran Malik, Powell took charge and smashed a six and three fours to end the innings on a high.

"I got winded at the end. I asked DW (David Warner) if I should get a single to allow his 100, but he told me, 'that's not how the game is played and told me to go big," Powell said.

"Sometimes, I could not hit it as well as I wanted to; some of the swings were planned. The wicket was good, I planned and shaped up for the full and slower balls, and the shots came off towards the end," Rovman Powell told the broadcasters after the first innings.

Before the game, Powell told the skipper, Rishabh Pant, that he wanted to bat higher up the order against the spinners. Although Powell has struggled against the spinners this season, still the management backed him to come good and deliver with the bat.

"I chatted with Rishabh about my batting position. I told him to trust me at five against the spinners. So I tried to get in for 15 balls and then accelerate in the next 20," Powell revealed.

Rovman Powell and David Warner forged a partnership of 122 runs in just 66 balls to guide their team to a huge total of 207 runs after 20 overs, which proved to be a match-winning score.
