IPL 2022 | Shubman Gill is quality batsman and technician, calls GT’s Vikram Solanki

Gujarat Titans became the first team to qualify for the Indian Premier League (2022) playoffs, defeating Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday (May 10) evening. The Hardik Pandya-led team rode to the win as Shubman Gill excelled with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 63 on the challenging track in Pune and propelling the Titans to a 62-run win.

After the match, the Titans’ Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki heaped praise on the 22-year-old Gill, calling him a technically sound player.

According to Indian Express, Solanki explained, “He was simply outstanding, wasn’t he? He’s a quality batsman, and quality technician. He’s got a wonderful temperament. It’s no wonder that he’s so highly regarded in Indian cricket. I thought he was exemplary with his innings. I thought he assessed the pitch very well; I thought he batted accordingly.”

Further in the conversation, Solanki appreciated the GT opener, and Solanki enjoyed his partnership with David Miller and Rahul Tewatia.

It was apparent that it wasn’t the easiest wicket to score on, it was difficult. Only due to Shubman’s knock, and later Rahul Tewatia who played a brilliant knock, we got to a competitive total. We took confidence from the fact that it was going to be difficult for Lucknow to score. Our attack has been able to take wickets, so we knew if we bowl like we have in the past, we’d make it difficult for them,” Solanki explained.

Before the mega auctions, the Titans purchased Gill for INR 8 crore for this edition of the IPL. The right-handed batter is currently the third-highest run-getter in the IPL 2022, with 384 runs under his belt, with 96 being his top score.

With 18 points from 12 games, Gujarat still have two league games remaining against Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
