IPL 2022 | Shikhar Dhawan scripts history, becomes first player to hit 700 fours

Punjab Kings' opening batter Shikhar Dhawan added another feather to his cap before his IPL 2022 campaign came to an end on Sunday (May 22).

The stylish left-handed batter became the first player in the tournament's history to smack over 700 fours. The Punjab Kings opener reached the milestone in the final league stage match of IPL against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Punjab's swashbuckling opener now has 701 fours to his name after playing 206 IPL matches. David Warner is second in the tally with 577 fours from 162 IPL matches, while Virat Kohli is third in the list with 576 fours in 221 games.

Most Fours In IPL History

Shikhar Dhawan: 701

David Warner: 577

Virat Kohli: 576

Rohit Sharma: 519

Suresh Raina: 506

Punjab Kings acquired the veteran opening batter for INR 8.25 crore at the mega auction, and he had a successful season with the franchise, notching up several records while playing for them.

Earlier, Dhawan had become only the second player to score 6000 runs in IPL history after former India skipper Virat Kohli. He accumulated 460 runs in the 2022 edition of the IPL, making it the 7th consecutive year he has scored 400 or more in a season.

Talking about Punjab Kings, the Mayank Agarwal-led side ended their IPL 2022 campaign on a high as they outplayed Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets in the final league stage match of this season, which was interestingly the dead rubber for both sides.

Dhawan (39 off 32) and Liam Livingstone (49* off 22) helped Punjab chase down the target of 158 runs in just 15.1 overs as the men in red finished at the 6th spot in the points tally at the end of the league stage.
