Renowned commentator Aakash Chopra believes that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Shreyas Iyer needs to get his act together against leg-spinners.
Iyer has looked in pristine touch so far in this season of Indian Premier League (IPL). But, in his last two outings against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Punjab Kings (PBKS), he was guilty of taking unnecessary risks against the leg-spinners, leading to his downfall."
In the game against RCB, Shreyas was dismissed by Wanindu Hasaranga for a 10-ball 13 after he tried to loft the leg-spinner flat over his head.
The only issue was that he didn't hit it from the middle of his bat and gave a simple catch to Faf du Plessis.
Then, in the last game against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), Iyer holed out on the leg-side to Kagiso Rabada after he couldn't resist the temptation of hitting Rahul Chahar after the wrist-spinner had delivered three dot balls.
Chahar followed it up with the wicket of Nitish Rana in the same over to end up with a double-wicket maiden.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra said that Iyer is too good a player to get out in such a manner against the leg-spinners, urging the KKR skipper to get his act together.
"Shreyas Iyer seems to have an issue with leg-spinners. It looks at the ball and seems he wants to hit a six. The last match he got out to (Wanindu) Hasaranga. He's too good a player to play shots like these to get out. Yes, Shreyas, you got to get your act together."
Shreyas' dismissal, followed by the wicket of Rana, did put the Knight Riders in a bit of a bother, but Andre Russell's brutal unbeaten 31-ball 70 ensured that the two-time champions romped home with six wickets still in their kitty.
Iyer has been in brilliant form ever since he returned from injury late last year. He has thrived in both Test and T20I cricket for India over the last few months and has looked in immaculate touch in this IPL as well.
The former Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper will look to convert his form into runs when he bats in KKR's next game against their bogey team, the Mumbai Indians, in Pune on April 6.
