IPL 2022 | Ponting set to miss game vs RR, as family member tests Covid positive

The Covid-19 scare is continuing to affect the Delhi Capitals’ dressing room. Two days after Tim Seifert and Mitchell Marsh were tested positive, head coach Ricky Ponting has been quarantined as one of his family members staying with him in the hotel has returned a covid positive report.

Delhi took to their Twitter to make the announcement known, "Ponting himself has tested negative twice subsequently. However, in the best interest of the team, the management and medical team has decided that he will remain in isolation for five days, as he was a close contact."

As a result, the DC coach won’t travel with the team to the Wankhede stadium for tonight’s encounter against Rajasthan Royals. Fortunately, the Australian legend has tested negative for the virus. However, as one of his family members is affected; thus, he has been isolated as a precautionary measure.

To note, the Kiwi keeper-batter, the Australian all-rounder and four of DC’s support staff members were earlier tested Covid-19 positive. Following this incident, the match between DC and PBKS was rescheduled and shifted from Pune to Mumbai to prevent any further transmission.

Also, after the occurrence of these cases, the BCCI conducted four tests on Thursday (April 22) and two on Friday on the Capitals team members.

With Ponting being unavailable, the other support staff Pravin Amre, Ajit Agarkar, James Hopes and Shane Watson, will play significant roles in forming the backroom strategies for DC in their crucial clash against the Royals.

Delhi Capitals are currently sitting at the sixth position in the points table with three wins from six games. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals have been extremely impressive as they have won five out of seven games and, therefore, are placed in the third position.
