IPL 2022 | PBKS vs RCB | Under-performer of the match

In the clash of the titans, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced a thumping loss from the hands of Punjab Kings (PBKS) by five wickets with six deliveries remaining. However, the conditions at DY Patil Stadium were batting paradise and tailor-made to hit even across the line.

After being asked to bat, the Royal Challengers - thanks to Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik - put great runs on the board, i.e. 205/2 after 20 overs. However, just like any other edition, the bowling didn’t help the cause.

RCB’s woes are still in the bowling department. Wanindu Hasaranga, who was bought for an INR 10.75 cr, was the man who picked up the first wicket at 71 for RCB, and it looked he would tilt the game in favour of his team.

But after that, when his team wanted him to give them a few wickets in the middle overs, he turned with nothing. This let the match slowly slip away from Bangalore’s hands.

Economy Rate Comparison: Here is what Hasaranga generally does in the different phases of a T20 match and what he came up with within this match.

Hasaranga was used in the middle overs. Given the conditions of play, an economy rate of 8 runs per over was acceptable, but Hasaranga conceded runs at ten runs per over rate in his quota of four overs.

The Lankan has a career average of 14.1, meaning he picks a wicket after conceding every 14 runs. Thus, the leg-spinner would scalp 2 to 3 wickets after conceding 40 runs on a general day. However, that wasn’t the case against Punjab.

Although Mohammad Siraj was more expensive than Hasaranga, as the spinner falls in our ‘Stealthy Warriors’ category and the seamer comes under ‘Imposters’. Thus Hasaranga gets ‘Under-performer of the Match’.
