Bangladesh Cricket Board’s cricketing operations chairman Jalal Yunus on Monday told reporters that pacer Taskin Ahmed will not be allowed to play in the Indian Premier League this season.
Earlier reports had emerged that the right-armer was the first choice to replace injured Mark Wood at the Lucknow Super Giants, but it looks like it would not be possible unless, the BCB have a change of heart.
Yunus argued that it was impossible to release Taskin from national duties as Bangladesh are currently playing South Africa.
''We have spoken with Taskin and he has understood the whole situation. He informed the franchise that he is not playing the IPL and will be available for the South Africa tour and later will return back home.”
Bangladesh Cricket Board has issues in the past with players prioritising IPL over national team. They got into a big tiff with all rounder Shakin Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman for the same in the last couple of years. Taskin Ahmed has been doing well for Bangladesh and is known for his ability to generate prominent seam movement at good pace.
Now that Taskin’s out of the picture, Lucknow will find it difficult to find a like for like replacement for Mark Wood given the skill set of the tearaway pacer is very specific in nature.
