  • Ipl 2022 Ms Dhoni To Be Retained By Chennai Super Kings Ahead Of Mega Auctions Next Year

IPL 2022 | MS Dhoni to be retained by Chennai Super Kings ahead of mega-auctions next year

In an interesting development on Sunday, 17th October, a Chennai Super Kings’ official confirmed about retaining their talismanic captain, MS Dhoni, prior to the mega-auction in 2022.

According to ANI, the four-time IPL winning skipper will be the first beneficiary for the Retention card to be used by the franchise next year.

“The first retention card at the auction will be used for MS Dhoni. The CSK ship needs it's captain and MS Dhoni will be back next year as well,” said the CSK official.

Touted to be finished after last year's horrible showing, MS Dhoni made a grand comeback in this season of the IPL, taking his team to its fourth title after competing in nine finals in his tenure as a skipper. His match-winning knock in the first qualifier also put out all doubts that critics had of his ability to still bat and win games with the willow. His captaincy was never in doubt at any point in time.

In the next edition of the IPL, there would be 10 teams and a mega auction would take place with existing franchises allowed benefits to retain some players and buy back some others through the Right to Match Cards. Although there has been no official announcement in regards to the retentions of RTMs, word of the mouth is that those features will stay for the mega auction.

Bangladesh vs Scotland Preview - Its David vs Goliath on Day 1 in the ICC T20 World Cup

It has not even been 48 hours since the completion of the Indian Premier League, and here we are, in the grandest stage of all. Feels weird, doesn't it? With very little time to bounce back, it might be a little difficult for the viewers to shake the IPL off and accommodate themselves into the setting of the T20 World Cup, but if the players can, so can we. Gone are the playoffs, the league stage, the T20 World Cup offers a different feel to the tournament. There is a qualifiers stage, then a super 12 and semi-final and finals. Read more about that here. The inaugural day of the tournament starts with the qualifier or the first round of the tournament. Two groups of four teams each are going to go at each other’s throats and only 2 teams from each group can move into the next round of the tournament, the Super 12. While newcomers Oman and Papua New Guinea fight it out in the inaugural game of Group A, veterans Bangladesh and Scotland are going to face each other in a crucial match in Group B. This opening game could not have been more important given the team winning this encounter will be virtually assured of a spot in the next phase of the tournament. Bangladesh come into the match as clear favourites and the more established of the two teams. They have defeated Australia and New Zealand in back to back T20I series in their own home and are currently enjoying their best period of T20 cricket. However, any intuitive watcher of the game would tell you that the pitches Bangladesh produced in Dhaka has a hell and heaven difference from the ones that they are going to get in the UAE and Oman. And this is ratified by their recent outings against Ireland and Srilanka where they lost both matches. While it could once again be argued that they did not have a full-strength team in either of those, but not having Shakib al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad should be an excuse to losing against teams who have not done anything of significance in the run-up to the World Cup in the context of world cricket. Scotland on the other hand will wear the badge of underdogs and go up against a team that are clear favourites in the first round of the tournament. However, they have punched above their weight before and they can certainly punch above their weight again. While Bangladesh have lost two on the bounce, Scotland have clinically ticked off Netherlands and Namibia in their warm-up games. Their star player George Munsey looked in good touch against Namibia scoring 67 runs off just 41 balls, and if he gets going, he has the potential to get Bangladesh in trouble. Match Details Scotland vs Bangladesh Match Number - 2 Date & Time - 17 October, 7:30 PM IST (6 PM local) Venue - Oman Cricket Academy Ground, Al Amerat Broadcast & Stream - Star Sports network, Disney+Hotstar Pitch Report Given this is the early phase of the tournament, one can expect a good batting wicket. But the pitches in these parts of the world have a reputation of gripping as the match goes on. We have already seen dew playing a big part in the night games in the UAE and this one should be no different. Win the toss and bowl first should be a safe bet to go with. Players to watch out for Scotland George Munsey Munsey stays low and Munsey hits big. The left-hander opening batter is recently coming off a big score against Namibia. Munsey is known as a risk-taker in the early part of the innings and his international strike rate of 153.4 is a testament to that. If he is on song, he can do a lot of damage to the Bangladeshi bowling line-up. Calum MacLeod The 32-year-old all-rounder is in a rich vein of form over the last couple of months and has contributed heavily to Scotland. His team might have had to take a tough route into the WC, but he has been on song with both bat and ball. Bangladesh Shakib al Hasan Freshly back from the final of the Indian Premier League, Shakib al Hasan does not need an introduction. Despite staying away from any form of cricket for a year, Shakib has been undroppable in Bangladesh and the KKR set-up. Bangladesh would really hope that they can use him right and extract as much as they can from him in this WC. Mustafizur Rahman Sports analyst Jarrod Kimber calls Mustafizur the ‘unicorn of cricket’. And he is. He possesses the rare talent of bowling off-spin deliveries at 135 kilometres per hour. He has taken 14 wickets in this edition of the Indian Premier League and while it was being played in India, Fizz seemed to be a mystery to the opposition batters. The pitches in the UAE and Oman should aid his skillset and Bangladesh would hope that their strike bowler can storm themselves into the main draw of the tournament. He’s always been a mentor: Kohli excited to welcome MS Dhoni back into Indian dressing room

The Indian skipper Virat Kohli was excited to welcome back legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni into the Indian dressing room, albeit in a new role of a mentor for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021. Kohli said that the experience of Dhoni would give a big boost to the players who are starting their careers at a major tournament. "He's always been a mentor for all of us when we were starting our careers through the time that he played with the team and now he has an opportunity to continue to do that same work again,” Kohl said in a pre-tournament presser. “Especially for the younger guys who are playing major tournaments, early stages in their careers, to just experience what he's gained over the years, and just have conversations with him around the game,” the Indian skipper added. The 32-year-old, who has announced he’s stepping down from the position of captain of the Indian limited-overs side after the end of the T20 World Cup 2021, would hope to have the mantra of winning major trophies from Dhoni, who won every single world trophy during his captaincy. "Such practical inputs, such intricate details of where the game is going and how we can improve our games by that 1 or 2% which always makes the difference when he's in the leadership role in any team,” Kohli said about Dhoni, who just won his fourth IPL title as skipper when CSK beat Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL finale on Friday, October 15. “We are absolutely delighted to have him back in this environment and his presence will certainly boost the morale of the team even further and give us a lot more confidence than we already have as a team,” added the Indan skipper who would begin his search for an elusive trophy with the clash against Pakistan in the Super 12 stage on October 24.

World T20 2021 | OMA vs PNG: Historic setting marks the beginning of World Cup journey

The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is finally here and when Oman takes on Papua New Guinea at their home ground of Al Amerat in Muscat on October 17, a new leaf in the history of Oamni Cricket will be turned. If Oman are becoming the first Aossizte nation to host and participate in the same T20 World Cup, then the stage is not small whatsoever for Papua New Guinea, who will become only the third team after giants Australia and New Zealand from Oceania to take part in cricket World Cup of any kind. What's at stake? With such occasions awaiting, both teams have worked hard to make sure that their dream of playing the World Cup get off to a great start. While Oman would be playing their second World Cup, they would still be looking to go one better than their 2016 effort where they could not get through to the second round even after beating Ireland at the group stage. Experienced players like Jatinder Singh, Kaleemullah, Aaquib Ilyas, Khawar Ali and skipper Zeeshan Maqsood will hold the key in Oman’s attempt to hit the board running with a win against PNG. For PNG too, the key will be with the likes of skipper Assad Vala, all-rounders Charles Amini and Norman Vanua and batters Tony Ura if they want to make a mark in their first-ever World Cup. Which team will trump which? Only time will tell on October 17. Oman vs PNG: Match Details Match Number-01 Date and Time: October 17, 2021, 03:30 pm IST, 02:00 pm Local, 10:00 am GMT Venue: Oman Cricket Academy Ground, Al Amerat Broadcast and Live Stream: Disney+Hotsar Pitch Report Although the wicket at Al Amerat has been a friendly one as scores of 160 are easy to get, but it has also provided some grip to the spinners and the World Cup opener could not ask for anything more than a true wicket to begin a true contest. Weather Forecast Al Amerat, which is situated 18 Kilometers away from Oman’s capital Muscat, will have a sunny day with temperatures hovering in the lower thirties and higher 20s. Any skipper winning the toss would look to bat first as the ball might just grip a bit more in the second innings.
