IPL 2022 | MI vs RR | Match 9 - Preview, Prediction, Probable XI, Fantasy XI

To continue their winning run in the tournament, Rajasthan Royals (RR) will take on Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 9th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai.

Yet again, MI did not have a great start to their IPL 2022 campaign as they were outplayed by Delhi Capitals (DC) in their first game. The five-time champions carried on their unwanted record of losing their season opener.

After putting to bat first, they posted 177 runs on the scoreboard, thanks to their openers Ishan Kishan (81 off 48) and Rohit Sharam (41 off 32). DC, in reply, chased down the score with ten balls to spare.

Mumbai's bowling looked off-colour against DC's lower middle-order. Jasprit Bumrah, one of the most experienced Mumbai blokes, got bashed as he gave away 43 runs in 3.2 overs. Rohit Sharma's decision of giving the 18th over to Daniel Sams backfired as he got some serious beating by Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel.

On the other hand, the Royals are coming off a substantial 61-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). They shined in all three departments against Kane Williamson and co.

Sanju Samson, Devdutt Padikkal, Shimron Hetmyer, and Jos Buttler performed well with the bat, while Yuzvendra Chahal, Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna excelled with the ball.

Rajasthan Royals must be riding high on confidence after their massive win over SRH in their opening game. They must be looking to sustain the momentum against Mumbai Indians as well.

Therefore, the five-time winners would need to put on a better show with the bat, especially considering how good Rajasthan's bowling and batting lineup is.

Pitch Report

The Dr DY Patil Sports Academy pitch is a good one to bat on. The surface looked a bit dry in the last game and helped spinners in the later hours. We can expect the same for this game as well. Overall, a batting track will be on offer while the team winning the toss should look to field first.

Pakistan One-Day Cup 2022 | BAL vs KPK | Final: Yasir Shah, Abdul Bangalzai shine as Balochistan lay hands on silverware

The final battle between Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Pakistan One-Day Cup 2022 saw the defending champions failing to retain their crown on Friday. Balochistan thrived in the marquee clash and rode on the brilliance of Yasir Shah and Abdul Bangalzai to trump Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by eight wickets. As Balochistan's bowlers rose to the occasion and delivered a splendid performance to bowl out Khyber for just 171 runs, their batters had a small task in hand, in which they successfully prevailed. Bangalzai and Haseebullah came to the fore and batted with utmost ease. Both the batters did not let the pressure of the final mount on their head and passed the litmus test with flying colours. While Haseebullah played second fiddle to the 19-year-old and scored 45 runs off 58 deliveries, his partner donned the aggressor's role and hit a blistering 80-run knock. Haseebullah perished with his side close to the target. Still, his wicket came a little too late for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as Asad Shafiq decorated the run-chase with his finishing touches and denied the opposition their second consecutive title. The win brought a maiden trophy for the Yasir Shah-led Balochistan, who were looking for it since the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revamped the domestic structure in 2018-19. Earlier, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were off to the worst possible start after being put in to bat. Kamran Ghulam anchored the ship, but his valiant effort could take his side to a paltry 171-run total. Yasir delivered a brilliant spell with the ball, claiming four wickets, giving away mere 33 runs in his full quota of overs. Khurram Shahzad, Akif Javed and Asad Shafiq also chipped in the crucial wickets and gave Balochistan a significant push in the final. Brief scores: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa - 171/10 Kamran Ghulam 70 (91), Rehan Afridi 27* (38) Yasir Shah 33/4; Balochistan - 175/2 Abdul Bangalzai 80* (77), Haseebullah 45 (58) Khalid Usman 47/2 Balochistan beat Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by 8 wickets

Umar Gul named as bowling coach for Afghanistan cricket team

Former Pakistan fast bowler Umar Gul has been appointed as the new bowling coach of the Afghanistan cricket team. The world cup-winning ex-speedster will join the Afghanistan cricket team's camp in Abu Dhabi on the 4th of April. The 37-year old has signed a short term contract with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) of three weeks, but it could be extended. Gul, during his illustrious international career, bagged 427 wickets in 237 games for Pakistan. The ex-Pakistan international possesses plenty of coaching experience at the domestic level as he was the bowling coach of Quetta Gladiators in Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Galle Gladiators in Lanka Premier League (LPL). "After coaching at PSL, KPL, LPL and domestic level, it is a pleasure to be associated with an international team. I will try my best to help the Afghan bowlers with my experience," Gul was quoted by Cricket Pakistan. Gul, considered one of the finest bowlers in T20 Cricket, will try and improve the pace bowling unit of the Afghanistan men's side. The Asian side possesses world-class spinners; however, they are devoid of some genuine fast bowlers, which has been a massive concern for them over the years. Former England batter, Graham Thorpe, was appointed as the head coach of the Afghanistan Cricket Team a few days back after the latter parted ways with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) after the humiliating 4-nil Ashes defeat. Umar Gul will be seen in action alongside Thorpe, who will be looking to take Afghanistan Cricket forward. Afghanistan men's national team will be in action in a five-match T20I series against Ireland in August as part of preparations for the T20 World Cup in Australia.
